Meet Ke$o | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ke$o and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ke$o, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to go into business for myself and I always had a love for music. However, becoming an independent music artist was by coincidence. I never thought of being an artist but, the first time I stepped in the recording booth it was a natural fit. I’m a firm believer in myself yet it was quite inspirational to see the people around me light up when they heard my music. I’ve had tunnel vision ever since then.
Talent will only get you so far. Hard work out works talent when talent doesn’t work hard. With that being said, I knew I had to put the work in to get to where I want to be. Also, I had to educate myself on the music business which is key to being a successful artist. You can truly do whatever you put your mind to. Nothing on this journey has been forced and I constantly receive affirmation which drives me to excel. It’s a process. It’s not a matter of if, but when?
I feel that I can bring something different to the industry. I wrote out a plan and I executed. When I write things down they tend to come into existence. American Novelist Toni Morrison once said “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” Well I took that same approach with music, “There’s music that I want to hear that hasn’t been recorded yet, therefore I must record it.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always had a way with words and a passion for writing so making the transition to being a recording artist came quite natural. I got to where I am today by staying true to myself and following my dreams. I believe my image, intellect, and originality among other things set me apart from others. It’s not what you say but how you say it. My music is inspirational and I constantly drop jewels to motivate others. I’m proud of my growth and consistency. In a short amount of time I’ve produced a great amount of work. Things don’t always go as planned however, I’ve been able to stick to the script. Along the way, I have learned that business comes first and it is very important to network and establish good connections. I want the world to take a look at my story and know that they too can chase their dreams despite the challenges that you may face.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely show them how we eat here in San Diego so a California Burrito from a local taco shop is a must. In Southern California, it’s always nice to hangout at the beach and in San Diego you have plenty options to choose from. Whether it’s getting in the water and enjoying the waves or checking out some of the nice bars on Garnett Ave, the beach is the place to be. San Diego has alot of tourist attractions so I would take them to the Del Mar Fair, Coronado Island, the Cabrillo National Monument, the Gaslamp District, Fashion Valley Mall, etc. There’s so many places and things to enjoy here. San Diego is multicultural and full of amazing people so there’s never a dull moment!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my team, family, and support system. Also, everyone who has contributed or assisted me in any fashion along the way from photographers and videographers to producers and sound engineers. You know who you are! I truly could not have started this journey by myself. It’s important to have a solid foundation and I’m grateful for that.
