We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelvin Vang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelvin, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up I have always been inspired by art and the beauty of it. I found myself around it often even when I wasn’t looking for it, it had always found its way into my life. I did Dancing, Music, Illustrated art, Crafting, even found myself doing hair at some point. But my favorite memory was drawing with my father, the first time i saw his drawing of the Pokemon Flareon my eyes lit up and i knew i wanted to be that good one day, the day i told my asian hmong father i was not going back to retail and im going to become a Tattoo Artist he was disappointed but said something that he has nevered said to me before “im happy that you are finally doing something that you always been good at. Im proud of you” He soon later passed December 26, 2022. So this one is for him. Becoming a creative artist made me who I am today and pursuing it was one my my biggest risk! But the blessings that came along is one in a million. Art has forever changed my life and If I can inspire one person, I believe I have done what I was meant to do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art work is kinda everywhere, I appreciate all forms of it. But if I had to say which ones I find myself doing often it would be Asian oriental style, Anime, Realsim, and Fineline work. My attention to details and design is probably what sets me apart. I’m also proud that I got through this year it was emotionally hard, but throught it all I was able to stay focus and become better than I was last year, and so im super excited for next year! A new flame has been lit and I can’t wait. Becoming a Tattoo Artist I first had to become a apprentice, and yes it was hard not just the art form itself. Studying, Work without pay, and trying to keep a roof over your families head was pretty risky. But I would say learned rather quickly I always had a skill to adapt and absorb information. My biggest lesson is spend time with your loved ones, while we are all so focus and submerge ourselves into what we do just remember that when you lose someone only you & your family will miss them. My work is inspired by many individuals who has impacted and inspired me throughout my life, and I hope that my story can inspire other like me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love food! If its in the area though I love Thai food so we probably hit up “Suran Thai” shout out to them
I’m not a gambler but we have a Casino like 10mins away if you want to gamble or have drinks, there’s also different selections of foods and Fine dining at the top of the casino that views the whole surrounding desert.
There’s also the world’s biggest dinosaurs if you want to go check that attraction out.
There isn’t much in the city but we are next to Palm Springs and Riverside I’f you like to travel a bit.
