We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey NaPier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I create art inspired by analog texture and digital glitz.

The tactile experience of the world grounds our memories in time and place. Analog texture is the coarse sand underfoot on a walk down the beach, the softness of a favorite cotton shirt, the crunch of a perfectly laminated croissant. My analog pieces, highly textured and vivacious, allude to these experiences.

Digital glitz is the bright star shining in the night sky. It is a beauty unlocked by exciting new technologies such as digital photography and visual effects, AI, blockchain, crypto, and NFTs. We live in a time of exponential change, and these rapidly developing technologies bring new ways to share art and connect with each other.

I combine analog texture and digital glitz to bring texture to the metaverse, through the creation of innovative new NFTs based on digitizations of my highly textured analog pieces. Distributing these pieces through various online platforms gives me the opportunity to share my art with collectors and fellow artists, and connect with the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been making art for as long as I can remember: my mother found me scribbling on the interior of her new Ford Taurus with a Sharpie from the comfort of my car seat, and I got my first video camera in the 4th grade. I have seen life in paint or through a lens ever since.

I graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and Roski School of Art and Design to begin a professional career in Visual Effects at a large post production house in Los Angeles. I developed powerful software skills and the tools to run complex projects, which provided a springboard for me to leave the field to pursue my own art.

I am dedicated to using the highest quality materials to produce one-of-a-kind pieces for individual collectors with whom I build relationships that can last a lifetime.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Eat – at Tallula’s Restaurant

Drink – at Cinema Bar

Drink (coffee) – at Cafe Dulce

Visit – the top of The US Bank Tower

Hang Out – by taking a drive up the PCH

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jeff Langlois, a talented photographer and videographer, inspires me to use the camera to tell the stories behind my art. Check out his work at: instagram.com/jeff_langlois.
