We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Strategic risk is an integral factor of my success. Key word being strategic! I think taking risks is a beautiful, empowering, and exciting necessity when growing professionally or personally. However- knowing at least when and how to maneuver a risk can be the difference between rapid growth or a devastating set back. Of course- some level of unknown is part of risk taking. But equipping myself with strategic skills like critical thinking and planning have granted me a higher probability of success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an artist is not easy and I am overcoming new challenges every day. I think, in large part, I am where I am today because I am so desperately in love with making art that I haven’t given up- even in the face of doubt. I’ve learned to be flexible and business savvy. I’ve learned that nothing is more important than the creation of my art. And so, to tune out exterior influences and instead focus on painting or drawing. I don’t want to tell anyone a thing about my work or my story. I want them to look at my art- see what I have made. That is all you need to know.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are both parts encouraging and cautionary. Becoming an artist is a romantic pursuit wrought with neglect of the more boring processes- business and what-not. They bolstered my enthusiasm for the craft while urging me to develop the management skills needed to operate a successful business.
