We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Leday-Poole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, how do you think about risk?
I personally love taking risk. I think that is truly where the reward resides. I’ve been taking risk in major ways in my life since I graduated high school. Risk are a 50/50 chance but that’s where faith comes into play. I’ve realized most don’t take risk because they are afraid of failure. I’ve gained the wisdom of knowing that there are no true failures in life. Just lessons that show you how to go about succeeding in a healthier way.
What my brand is about and stands for, is a risk. I’ve had to risk losing my family over what I do, because they are highly religious and are completely against spirituality. It’s brought me to an even closer place with God. Many people believe because of tv and social media that spirituality and tarot are just connected to the devil and witchcraft. Not necessarily true. It depends on who’s reading for you and their beliefs. Everything can be used for good or bad. Don’t forget that.
I chose to take a risk and do something completely non traditional. One that society depicts as the complete opposite of the person I a truly am and my beliefs. I’d risk it all again to help the people I’ve helped over the years. My life is a risk, not only as a reader who wants to bring people closer to God but as a black gay woman. Without risk taking there would be no need to have faith and or believe in anything. Taking risk is living life to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Evolving Spiritually- is a spiritual faith based business that uses the tool of tarot to help dive deeper beneath the surface and heal things that are blocking them in life. I didn’t grow up in spirituality nor did I know of tarot until 2016. The same year I started my business Evolving Spiritually. I’m an intuitive reader meaning I do not go off of textbook definition meanings of the card, I don’t not predict the future, nor do I predict death. I used my intuition and read current energy. I touch on things you already know of, but I help you to see them in a different perspective.
My business is to educate while helping others gain the knowledge to live a healthier life, by making healthier choices. I started this business from the ground up using the platform Youtube. I didn’t go into Evolving Spiritually knowing it would turn into a business, I just thought I was creating another YouTube channel. It was just for fun, until people started asking for private readings. Then things, took off. I’ve been in the game for about four years now and things have definitely changed when it comes to algorithm on YouTube. So I have moved my business to Patreon which is a risk in itself.
Evolving Movements – is a movement healing based business that one day will become a studio. Evolving Movements is all about releasing the energy we have built up through movement. Whether that is dance, yoga, pole dancing, or just jumping around. I’ve found a way to combine movement and therapy to help move pass traumas and the feelings people have a hard time verbally expressing.
Nothing about owing my own businesses has been easy, I’ve built it all by myself. Everything that I put out I’ve created. I’ve made a name and business for myself without any sponsorships or promo. No handouts, nothing but pure faith. It hasn’t been easy but it’s been so worth it. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to always, always have multiple income streams. This is something i was unaware of before. I still till this day am trying to recover from putting all of eggs in one basket.
Honestly, I’ve learned many life lessons, some I know I wouldn’t have learned without taking the risk I did. What I want people to know about me and my brand is that, the world is a broken place with broken examples. It’s not the brokenness that is the problem it’s the lack of representation that there’s more to life than just the surface stuff. That life is about connecting more deeper to yourself and your foundation (faith). That I am not perfect and am still learning but I’m committed to using my life as an example of what God is able to do if you just believe. I don’t want to be a push it (God) in your face kind of person. I want to be a let me break it down and tie it to something realistic to show you the truth. Life is deeper then we are made out to believe. That’s what I want people to know.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t been able to get out as much as I’d like, but for the few places I have been I’d have to say my favorite spot is Mission Beach! You can do it all there, you have the rollercoaster, food, the beach, shopping stores, a basketball court by the water and sand volleyball. I specifically like this beach because if you walk down enough you can find a nice quiet spot to relax by the water. It was one of the first beaches my family and I visited when we first moved here so it’ll forever be a favorite of mine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my wife John’a, she’s been my rock through the ups and downs of my career. Always pushing and motivating me to keep going, and never letting me forget how strong and wise I am. To my daughter Kayleigh, who would literally sit for hours with me as I recorded reading after reading. She never complained and has grown to really understand what hard work and sacrifice looks like. To my friends, Sandrea and Lola, the ones who have watched, shared, and supported my business. They didn’t give up on me when everyone else (family, childhood friends) in my life did. And lastly, to all the nonbelievers. You contributed to this thick skin I now have. You motivated me to never stop being me. Thank you!
