Meet Katarzyna Sadej | Opera Singer and Vocalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katarzyna Sadej and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katarzyna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because I felt like I had a calling to do what I do. I knew that it would require hard work and perseverance, and doing something else or working a “regular job” would have felt like a cop out – like I was escaping from the challenge of doing the most meaningful and fulfilling things in my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional opera singer and a versatile vocalist. I have sung in many world-renowned concert halls, have recorded vocals for various recordings, and have also taught voice throughout the majority of my career. A career in singing is not an easy one! It takes a huge amount of discipline and time to develop an operatic instrument, and the sacrifices one makes in order to be a singer are difficult for most people. COVID was by far the most difficult obstacle to overcome for most performers and artists. I am most proud of having developed my “Earth Singing Project” during the pandemic. With performances cancelled, I delved into Earth Singing in order to use my voice to raise awareness for our Earth’s fragile beauty. I traveled into beautiful wild locations and recorded my live singing there, while capturing the glorious landscapes I was singing in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego has no lack of exciting activities. I would recommend the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park; the beaches at Pacific Beach, La Jolla Cove, and Solana Beach; and the hikes at Mission Trails Regional Park for a taste of what Southern California’s landscape originally looked like before colonization. Eating and drinking is no hard task either in San Diego – a micro-brewery Meca, it’s easy to find fantastic beer and food steps away from anywhere! My favorites include Oscars Mexican Food in Pacific Beach, Stone Brewing at Liberty Station, and Casa de Reyes in Old Town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are the first and foremost people responsible for me doing what I do. Without their unconditional encouragement, I may have done something else in my life.
