We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassandra Sophia Casanova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kassandra Sophia, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was choosing myself throughout this journey. Kraftwheel started with offering a variety of crafts that were customizable to the customer’s preference. That’s when I realized I wasn’t creating what I truly loved/enjoyed. And in reality, that was only because I was afraid my own art wouldn’t be able to capture people’s interest. But then came polymer clay, and that was all about creating something of my own! And to my surprise, the support has been unreal. Reminding yourself of your worth and giving yourself the chance to just be you, works WONDERS. Remember to be yourself, love yourself, trust yourself, and most importantly choose yourself. All in that order. Because what is meant for your will find its way to you!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been finding my voice along the way. When Kraftwheel first started it was out of a love for crafts. But as I found my footing it became something more. I figured out what it was that I wanted to create and the message I wanted to share. I want to create beautiful art that people can feel something with. Whether that feeling be strength, beauty or even inspiration. That’s what I’m most proud of; That I found myself through this creative journey and that I have the ability to share that and help someone else find their voice. I’m also really excited about Kraftwheel’s future. I’m currently finishing my undergraduate degree so my attention is split between the two. But once I graduate, I plan to fully submerge myself into Kraftwheel and its identity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, an itinerary is most definitely being written up. The week would consist of many activities. On the first day, we’d go to trader joes and get all the necessities for a charcuterie board. We’d put it together beautifully and head over to one of the many gorgeous parks San Diego has to offer. The next day would be Balboa Park to visit all (or most) of the museums. The day would end with visiting the zoo and most likely desert from a new place we just found on yelp. The next day, we’ll eat breakfast in old town and spend the day walking around wondering what it would be like if we were alive back then. Then we’d make our own candles at that one cute little candle shop there! The day after, we’d get ourselves up bright and early and go on a hike. And then spend the rest of the day resting and watching old Disney channel shows/movies because we exhausted all our energy on that hike. The rest of the week, we’d check into a nice hotel in Downtown and treat ourselves because why not? Leaving the opportunity to eat at any aesthetically pleasing restaurant we find on yelp, yet again. We’d go antique shopping and thrifting and see if we have any luck on finding some gems. Maybe do our nails? The world is our oyster.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where I am in life, that credit, is definitely due to my parents. The success in my business, I have to thank everyone that has ever supported and encouraged me to keep doing what I’m doing. Another reason for my success is the small business community. The amount of love and support small businesses have for each other is unmatched. I would also like to give a shout out to my boyfriend, Lando. He is the first person to hear my future endeavors and remind me that nothing is out of our reach.
