We had the good fortune of connecting with Kashmir And Jessica Neumann And Torp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kashmir and Jessica, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success in my mind isn’t defined by one thing, but a few. I believe success is creating a life of financial abundance, freedom, and experience. Success is measured in the rewards that you

Kashmir:
I have a very interesting work history all starting from the age of 13, when I began full time nannying in the summers. Looking back it’s fair to say I’d pretty much do anything and everything. During college I got by working at a restaurant, but I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom and pay from it. I prefer a more active, flexible work life so I gravitated towards the service industry even after college working as a server/bartender. I applied for jobs relative to my Psychology/Spanish degree but it never panned out. I was also internationally traveling as a backpacker and the flexibility from serving seemed to fit perfectly.

I was a nomad for a few years in my 20s. At 24 I moved to Vietnam to become an English teacher in Hanoi. At 25, I moved back home to Wisconsin where I’m from and became a personal trainer and wrote a book. Ages 26 and 27 I continued bartending but it was on and off as Covid was hitting. I had moved to San Diego at this point and my friend and I started a cleaning business in the neighborhood to get by. I also had

Age 28 I moved abroad to work on superyachts as a stew/personal trainer. I lived in some pretty cool places both on land and at anchor including Mallorca, Spain, all over Turkey, South of France, Croatia and in the seas of Greece. Right before age 30, I moved back to USA to focus on land based work. I continued to work in restaurants and personal train but something inside of me was telling me I need to run my own business. It was a constant thought that I wanted to act on, I just needed an idea. I have so much drive and motivation for working, why not work for myself.

Jessica who already had successful jewelry business, decided she was down for the adventure of starting something new, so we brainstormed. Jessica has a similar work history to me- bouncing from one serving job to the next. She despises working for other people and during Covid decided she was done with that. And then her brand “Vintage Ivy” was born! Her brand has grown and she’s become very successful with her jewelry in both San Diego and NYC.

We met at age 14 and were sisters ever since. So when we decided to start a business together, we were stoked! Starting our “Oasis” has been far from easy but it has been one of the best learning experiences. We found an empty lot of land for lease and decided to apply for a beer and wine license along with building two small boutiques for clothes and jewelry AND a coffee camper. We were your one stop shop for everything a girl wants, wine, coffee and clothes! But at the very beginning, we spent 7 days just to clear out all of the weeds and overgrowth before we laid down turf. We worked constantly to bring our unique idea to life.

I’ve learned a lot along the way. but one of the biggest lessons is that we are humans are strong and if we put our mind to things, anything can happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Kashmir and Jessica- We live in PB, San Diego now and really love it. We’ve learned to know the city a lot and planning a trip would be our pleasure!

Day 1: we would start in our neighborhood and show are friend the cute shops and fun bars on Garnet. Making sure to end up at World Famous for dinner and sunset
Day 2: The next day we’d wake up and go to Sunset Cliffs in OB, setting up on Garbage beach from 11am-3pm with lunch, cold beverages, an umbrella and of course a camera. That place is beautiful! For the evening we’d go check out Wonderland or Hodad’s for burgers and explore all of the cute shops in OB.
Day 3: La Jolla all day! Starting with a morning walk seeing the seals. We would then do a kayak tour to the caves offered in la jolla. We would take a nap on the beach before grabbing dinner and seats at the Comedy Store.
Day 4: Wake up before sunrise and climb cowles mountain for gorgeous views. Drive back to PB by 8:30 AM, grab some breakfast at Broken Yolk and then go chill on the beach for day. We would get dinner at Oscar’s Tacos.
Day 5: Morning walk through Balboa park and Old Town. Go to our favorite restaurant in Old Town for lunch. Spend the late afternoon checking the marina on Shelter Island.
Day 6: Drive down to TJ for the day and sleep in Rosarito.
Day 7: Drive back and hope to not get stuck in the line for too long! Friend had the best time ever and flys home that evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We both would love to shout out our significant others, Brad and Colby, for helping out from the very start. The boys were very hands on and helped us clean up the space, level the ground, lay the turf and much more all out of the goodness of their hearts. Jessica’s Dad, Troy deserves a shoutout as well, because he helped build our boutiques from the ground up. There was so much physical work revolving around construction that Jessica and I were unfamiliar with. We are so appreciative of Brad, Colby and Troy. We had a lot of help from our friend group too who definitely deserve some credit!
