We had the good fortune of connecting with Karleen Driggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karleen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew up playing soccer and throughout my life it made a positive impact. I wanted to provide opportunities for other kids to learn and develop their skills in a fun and positive environment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Soccer Kids America in 2008. It’s a non profit organization. Our mission is to provide a fun and positive environment to assist kids in learning and developing soccer skills. Our programs are designed to support kids in learning to love the sport of soccer and to develop positive self esteem along with a basis for future success in soccer and in life.

We run after school soccer classes, camps, tournaments and a futsal (indoor soccer 5 a side ) league.

It was challenging at times and still is running a business however my passion for the sport and seeing the kids having fun and learning is so rewarding. Many kids who began with us are now playing at a higher level whether it’s in college or even at a pro level.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the beauty of where we live. In addition to soccer I love being outdoors in nature at the beach or hiking. A favorite place to go is Torrey Pines or Sunset Cliffs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had a volunteer parent coach in high school that made me love soccer even more. He taught me more about the game and new skills.
