We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Sharp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“In order to be who I was born to become, life couldn’t have happened any other way”. This is significant to me because it reframes the obstacles that we all undoubtably will encounter at some point during our life and it is those trials that ultimately become our blessings. I believe this to be true, because as I look back I can absolutely appreciate the unfolding of my life and how certain events brought me exactly to where I am today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
For over a decade I was a patient care coordinator for a group of top plastic surgeons in La Jolla. With a couple of my surgeons nearing their retirement, I kept hearing an inner voice whispering it is time to move on and start something new.  Then one day a patient called to say that she needed to unfortunately reschedule her surgery because her house fell out of escrow and was worried about possibly needing to move in the middle of her recovery. She then proceeded to vent about the highs and lows and emotions she was feeling during her home purchase. At that moment I realized, I need to go into real estate! I have always been interested in real estate and home design so it all just began to make sense.  At first it was a difficult decision to leave a steady job, especially since I thoroughly loved the interactions I had with the patients on a daily basis as I helped them navigate their cosmetic surgery journey. To be honest, I never considered myself a “sales person” yet I’m a darn good one. I literally have talked patients out of surgery and or encouraged them to postpone because their timeline and goals were not aligned to their highest benefit. Those patients would later circle back when it was appropriate and in the meantime refer several friends because they knew they could trust me. Purchasing a home is a huge life event and its not just the monetary aspect its an emotional decision as well. It’s crazy how much of my cosmetic surgery sales experience carries over as a Realtor where I’m able to have vulnerable conversations with my clients whilst making them feel comfortable and that they trust I truly have their best interest in heart as they make a life altering purchase and investment in their and their family’s future. Nothing is better than handing over the keys to a family and watching them as they unlock the door of their first dream home. I believe a happy life must include service to others and in this moment I’m happier than ever!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love living in Little Italy with all the amazing restaurants while also being so close to Portside and Downtown. When friends come to visit I definitely will be taking them on lots of walks around town with my dog Lola and for sure be checking out the farmers market on Saturday morning. My favorite place to grab coffee is at Caffé Italia, they absolutely have the best Americano around! Then we’d stop by Queenstown for Sangria and burgers with our pooches of course as they have the cutest outdoor area with lots of green grass. For the evening dinner at Barbusa followed by drinks at Kettner Exchange.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
At the age of 36 I found myself living alone for the very first time after my divorce and I was terrified. As much as it pains me to admit, I had lost my identity in my marriage and unfortunately with that came a lot of fear and self doubt. I was thankful to have a loving and supportive family however moving back home was not an option I even wanted to entertain (sorry mom and dad, love you) which pushed me to look within and re-discover myself and figure out how I wanted to live this next chapter of my life. I started listening to motivational and positive mindset podcasts from Lewis Howes and Ed Mylett and I began imagining a new life and believing my “current story” was merely a transition to a future purpose.  Driving home from work one day, I saw a familiar face walking in front of me in the crosswalk. It was my former co-worker Alex. We had not seen one another in a couple of years and reconnected that day out of fate as she was the friend who turned out to be exactly what I needed at that moment.  She recently too was single and an aspiring entrepreneur herself. She was on the ground level of starting Babes Golf, a community that brings woman together to learn how to golf in a social and non-intimidating environment.

Through Babes Golf I have met so many inspiring woman which not only helped me gain confidence in myself again after my divorce but ultimately gave me the courage to take a leap in my own career which in turn helped to inspire other babes on their own journeys. I’ll forever be grateful for this community of strong woman!
