We had the good fortune of connecting with Kandice Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kandice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My main focus and purpose for starting my own businesses was to gain overall freedom and escape the mentality of the 9-5 lifestyle being the only solution.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an entrepreneur specializing in a number of different beauty services such as hair and lashes. I also offer stylish fashion products such as sunglasses and soon to be jewelry as well. Being in charge of both businesses and some, it most certainly gets challenging. Especially trying to balance the demand of both. But what sets me apart from some is my ability to make a way out of no way. Even if it takes me a while to come up with a solution, I will make it happen. That’s one characteristic that I feel has to really be in you. You have to have that hustlers mentality if you really want to make it. Which is one lesson I had to learn. You have to always be able and willing to bet on self and follow up with putting in the necessary work. Another great lesson I learned is to never expect things from people. People are only going to do what they really want to do. Especially as it pertains to support. Allow the support to grow organically, that way you know it’s real. When all is said and done I want people to look at me and my journey and believe that anything is possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am such a huge homebody but for this particular occasion we would definitely take a ton of trips to the beach. Which has a lot to offer in itself, such as the Boardwalk, restaurants, and the scenery of course. We would also take advantage of the many hiking trails available, one of the very popular ones being Cowles Mountain. Which offers a great workout and a beauty scene as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a huge shoutout and thank you to my biggest supporter Kayla. Kayla has been there for me through thick and thin. Constantly keeping me encouraged and motivated. Reminding me to focus on the big picture even when it isn’t the most visible.
