Meet Julie Nguyen | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Everything in life is a risk. We take risks the moment we wake up without even realizing it.
Spring 2020 was the year I graduated with my
Bachelors of Science in Child and Adolescent Development it was also the year the pandemic hit. Becoming a teacher has always been my goal and dream career but when the pandemic hit, everything changed. I wasn’t so sure anymore and found myself lost and stuck somewhere I’ve never felt before. Someone special to me gifted me a camera and I decided to take a risk, pause what I had been working on and shoot my shot. I didn’t know that picking up a camera would introduce me to a whole different world. I fell in love with it right away and at first it scared me because I was headed towards a completely different path of what I had originally planned.
But life has a funny way of working out. I’m a big believer and know that we are all destined to be exactly who we are supposed to be in this lifetime no matter what route we take. It’s all about taking the risk. If we don’t take the risk now, we lose out on opportunities that may only come once in a lifetime.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of how far I’ve come considering the fact that I was self-taught. I look back and see the progression. It’s truly amazing to see the growth and I am so excited about what my future photography journey holds. There are always challenges just like everything else we do in life but it’s how we perceive it and how we overcome those challenges. I’ve learned that most things in life are taught to us by the lessons we go through in life. My goal is to be able to capture special moments in peoples lives. There is something so special about being able to be there in the moment but knowing that you are also making an impact on these peoples lives by capturing their special moment so they can relive those moments again is truly something amazing

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles the city of Angels, so much to see, eat, drink, and hangout. The arts district is a dope place to go chill and hangout with your friends while also appreciating artwork. There’s so many different murals out on the streets of LA. If you are into art then LA is the place to check out, they also got art museums like The Broad which is full of contemporary artwork from the 1950s to the present. Rooftops are a must do in LA because what better way can you see the city from up above. The closest beach to LA would be Santa Monica so if you want to chill and have a relaxing day at the beach hit up the pier there maybe go for a couple amusement park rides too at Pacific Park right on the Santa Monica Pier. There is just so much you can do in LA

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout Manzur Guzman someone who is very special to me and thank him for all he’s done from supporting me from day 1 and believing in me. He is the one that gifted me my first camera and got me into photography. He is actually an extremely talented tattoo artist based out of Los Angeles who specializes in black and grey realism. Without him, my photography story wouldn’t even exist in this lifetime. His IG is manzur.g.tattoos and his email is manzur.guzman@gmail.com hit him up for some dope ink
