We had the good fortune of connecting with Judy Balsavich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Judy, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
By far, the most impactful decision I have ever made is the decision I made, 13 years ago, to put down the bottle and get sober. Before my drinking became a problem, I was that baseball, soccer, and rollerblading mom ,who successfully juggled a full time job, family and home life. When my marriage took a turn for the worse, resulting in a divorce, I turned to something that could numb me and shut the world out! For the next 5 years, it was an absolute nightmare-not only for me but for my sons as well! I decided to ask for help and have not had a drink since! today I get to set the example and be present in my family’s life! I also get to share my experience, strength and hope with others who are walking this same journey.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am very proud of the products we make here at Sungold Soaps. We use nothing but the finest, all natural, and sometimes hard to find essential oils, butters, fragrances, and micas. Everything we make is handmade in small batches with a focus on quality and detail. In addition to creating some of the finest soaps we’ve ever seen, I am also proud of the special relationships which I have developed with my many customers. After receiving requests, I have decided to start offering classes to those who are interested in learning more about the art of making bath bombs, soaps, bath salts and lotion bars-this is something I am really looking forward to, as mentoring others is something I find especially rewarding.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Balboa Park, Liberty Station, the beach, Humphrey’s By The Bay for an outdoor concert.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to all the volunteers on the front lines that help our amazing community through out San Diego and the biggest shoutout to Interfaith community services! Without Interfaith community services and the most amazing group of women & men I can honestly say I would not be sober today!
