We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Timpany and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t want to work for anyone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started off in San Diego fresh out of prison for marijuana charges about ten years ago. I worked long hours as a metal fabricator. Saving every penny I had to buy my first camera. From there I finally was able to make some money filming surfers and action sports. I filmed surfing as often as i could, scraping by with less than $100 dollars a week I would go into as many small businesses as possible offering promo videos for free. Finally after several years of trying to get my name out there I was able to get consistent work. I knew that If i didn’t give up eventually my hard work would pay off.

All my life i’ve had the desire to create. Bringing someones vision into reality and watching them light up is what I live for. One of life’s biggest pleasures is doing things for others. I try to live by that every day. If you can do one thing for someone everyday that brings them happiness, your quality of life will increase ten fold.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First place i’d take them would be Ocean Pacific Gym in pacific beach. Happy body happy mind. second I would take them to blacks beach for a surf followed by barria tacos at la dona in ocean beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to Chris Yoder (@chrisyoder) for being a great mentor, Along with Jon Correal (@joncorreal) for the creative inspiration, Alex Callahan for helping me with pursuing my passions, Ian Moore (uwowi_films for giving me someone to look up to and @oceanpacificgym for giving me a place to call home.
