Meet Jonathan and Rebeca Coronado | Coffee Roaster, Barista, and Social Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan and Rebeca Coronado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan and Rebeca, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
We source our coffee beans through direct trade with one farmer in Cerro Bueno, Honduras. Legacy Farms Coffee is a compassion coffee farmer that gives back to the community where the coffee is hand picked. We know where our coffee beans are coming from and that the workers and their families are treated and paid fairly. The coffee is sustainably sourced and grown without herbicides and pesticides which is also better for our environment!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are primarily a small family owned business. We operate out of our home and roast our coffee in small batches. My husband Jon roasts each batch at about 1lb at a time ensuring an even roast. We have grown a lot over the past two months by participating in local farmers markets and collaborating with other small businesses. It hasn’t been easy. When we started my husband was on disability due to a hand injury. We were low on income and desperate to provide for our family. My husband’s hobby quickly became a source of income but obviously with getting our permits and licensing we needed financial support. Many of our friends and my parents supported us as we got established. We have learned that it is always better to prioritize community over competition. We all need each other and there is room for us all in this small business world! We want the world to know that we care about where our coffee comes from. From the hands that pick the beans, to those that sort, and ship them. It’s so important to know where our coffee comes from. We love that our farmer gives back to the community of Cerro Bueno, Honduras and that our small purchase helps out too. We love sharing the many ways the farmer helps the community out there and how he cares about the quality of every coffee bean. We are very blessed to play a part in helping spread the word about their mission while also providing the community with quality beans. We don’t just roast coffee we are passionate about coffee from crop to cup.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting from out of town, I would first take them to Chai Coffee Co. for breakfast or lunch and to get a dirty chai latte. They also have delicious bagel sandwiches. We’d then visit Timeless Pages, a small little bookstore right next to this cafe. They resell used books and always offer free books from the treasure chest to young readers. We would then head to Oak Glen to visit the hiking trails on the Oak Glen Preserve! It’s a beautiful place to hike and the trails are easy enough for a beginner hiker or kids to come too!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have so many people to thank! Primarily we would like to thank my parents for always supporting us and our dreams. Our farmer Ashley Williams of Legacy Farms Coffee for helping us and believing in us and sending us such amazing coffee! Our friends Eric & Mallory Drazin who are fellow small business owners and who with their support both moral and financial we wouldn’t have been able to kickstart our business. We are grateful to Jason Keeney of Farm at Greenspace for allowing us a space to grow and dream as we popped up and of course Valerie Weiner who has supported us and collaborated with us since she met us!
