We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Welnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My first thought was not that I wanted to start my own business, but rather that I wanted to be the master of my own time. Being a business owner and working for myself seemed like the best way to do this. It’s more work, but It’s my work, and any learned experiences get to be applied in a way that benefits me and the people I work with or hire.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want to inspire a greater appreciation for the arts in my local community and a higher level of respect for local artists and the creative environment that stems from them. I have so many personal goals, but I want to see my peers achieving their own goals in the artistic community. I got to where I am not just through hard work, but because other people gave me a chance. Artistically I am very proud of the animated music video I produced for the song “Cara Jean.” I’ve learned that the most important thing is to believe in yourself. My brand is about inspiring others to believe in themselves and to take up that hobby that you stopped doing because you were too preoccupied with work. If what you do for work isn’t particularly rewarding, that’s okay, but prioritize the things that are rewarding and that make you happy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we’re going out in the Carlsbad/Oceanside area I’m going to impress them with a meal at June et Jolie on State street in Carlsbad then we’re going to go to the Jazzy Wishbone in Oceanside for beers and live music. If we’re doing downtown San Diego, we’re hoping on Coaster and getting some beers at Stone Tap Room on Kettner before sailing around San Diego bay in a catamaran. Last time I did this I booked a sailing trip with Viator in San Diego. Then I’m taking them to Herb & Wood for a swanky meal and some cocktails before we go dancing in the gas lamp and finish the night off Tacos El Gordo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I always have to thank my love, my confidant, my inspiration, my partner in crime, and my wife, Delilah. She has helped me grow as a person, and really achieve a higher potential. I also have to thank all the cats on the scene here in SD. In particular there is Danny Gonzalez, Blake Armstrong, Ian Harland, Kyle Bayquen, Justin Joyce, and the many other musicians who put up with me and keep showing up to the gigs ready to rock. I also have to give credit to the musical community in New Orleans where I was living before I moved back to North County. I picked up a lot of practical knowledge and wisdom out there. I was really inspired by how welcoming people were, and it’s also where I met my wife.
