We had the good fortune of connecting with Joann Stabile and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joann, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I never particularly cared for working for other people. I always was a bit “bossy” even as a small child and grew up in a family of entrepreneurs so it just came naturally to me. I just put my mind to it and figured things out as I went along. I am still figuring it out! Especially in this strange time. It is important for me to be creative and flexible in order to continue to grow my business and be successful.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and Executive Chef of Chef Joann Customized Catering and Prepared with Purpose. Both companies provide delicious and beautiful food to nourish people at the important events of their lives as well as their day to day lives. The road to the level of success I have achieved so far has not been easy. But it hasn’t been as hard as I am sure other peoples has been. I am grateful for the process and continue to learn more each day. I have been able to overcome challenges by keeping a cool head, listening to others that I look up to and respect. Being creative and resourceful and being confident in what we are doing. I would love people to know that both companies are primarily operated by women that genuinely care about providing beautiful, creative and delicious food for all to enjoy!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them out to flynn springs on a Sunday to visit Grand Ole BBQ and listen to live music and enjoy drinks and food. I would take them to breakfast at Toby’s 19th hole then spend a morning and afternoon walking around balboa park and end up at panama 66 for snacks and drinks in the sculpture garden. I would do a saturday walking tour of normal heights, university heights and north park. Starting at Cantina mayahuel, then lancers, madison, bluefoot, sunset at bird park and dinner at the turf supper club. I would take them on a hike in mission trails park and then have lunch at the trails eatery in La Mesa. I would take them to Tijuana for drinks at Cine Tonala followed by dinner and live music at Casa Plasencia. Drinks at Kinred then pizza at Buona Forchetta in South Park Brunch at Fernside then a long walk around the neighborhood to check out all of the cool houses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my Father, Joseph Stabile. He is no longer with us but is definitely where I get my entrepreneurial spirit from. He taught me to be strong and independent and to be incredibly resourceful. I would also like to give a shout out to my friends and clients, Kris and Bren Buchanan. They hired me to be their private chef and shared their meals with their dear friends and that was the birth of my meal prep company, Prepared with Purpose. There are many people, over the years, that have influenced, inspired and urged me to be who I am today. Both in business and in my personal life.
