We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Sarratt-Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was actually a dream of mine when I was a teenager. To be able to own a witchy store and to be able to teach and give back to the community. But life took a different course and I became a tattoo artist. I’ve been a tattoo artist for 30 years now. A couple years ago, though everything came full circle. My husband and my children were really encouraging me to start selling the things that I have been normally just making such as a candles, incense, bundles, oils, jewelry, etc. and it took a while for them to convince me that that would be a good idea. But then I took on the task of starting the website, the Instagram, etc. and it’s just grown and grown, which is amazing. The sense of community and the amazing people that I have met is my favorite part. We do live sales through Instagram. We do vending ,we have the website and we also do our magic tattoos, which brings both businesses together. Our website is www.talesfromthecoven.com. You can also find our podcast on the website. Our podcast is all about teaching, learning and sharing witchy insights.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artistic person being able to constantly create new things to help people in their lives or to help people heal through a magic tattoo is very rewarding, but also can be very draining. I truly enjoy and love what I do because I feel like , I am giving back healing to the community. It’s really at this point in my life that ,I do love what I am doing in every way. And for me as a creative person the whole thing of doing something new and different. Every day is really good for my soul cause that’s how I truly work. I need to be challenged. I need to feel like I’m doing something good for the community and this encompasses all of it. all of our products are handmade by me, infused with magic and intention. I strive to make each piece, beautiful. And full of magic. That could be from the smallest piece of jewelry that I design to each candle that is hand poured. We also will make custom candles and oils for whatever intent the customer is looking for. Our live sales on Instagram have become a wonderful gathering place where people can talk freely ask questions share information and learn. It has created an amazing community that I absolutely adore. Make sure you check us out on instagram at @syrentattoo and @talesfromthecoven .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honestly wouldn’t be where I am at without the support and encouragement of my amazing husband, David Chavez and my children. They have always been there cheering me on supporting my crazy ideas. Helping me to set up and tear down booths or even just bouncing new ideas for the podcast or products off of. And of course, all of the amazing people that I’ve got to meet a lot have become wonderful friends through doing Tales from the Coven.
