Meet Jessica Rooney | Yoga Instructor & Flight Attendant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Rooney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Consciously creating balance in your life takes work.
If you don’t know balance or anything close to it, you are taking a leap of faith to put in effort for an outcome you may not be familiar with. I’ll tell you now, it’s worth it. Keep going.
My yoga practice has brought so much perspective to my life and constantly has me taking a step back to try to bring more balance to anything and everything I can. (Physically, mentally, and spiritually.) Both professionally and personally as well.
How balance has changed over time for me, has involved upping my self care routine. Staying active, feeding and fueling your body with nutrients, and all the water you can get. I have also found myself spending more time alone. When you are in a metal tube with over 100 people for hours of your day, you have to make “you time” a priority. Lots of yoga. Meditation. Journaling. And sleep.
I’m a hell yes kind of gal, and I’ve learned that if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no. Listen to how you feel, listen to your gut, and let it guide you to a more balanced life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a flight attendant, there are certain characteristics and qualities I think we all had to have to have been interested in such a unique job.
Personable. Adventurous. Flexible. (Just a few that come to mind.)
The challenges start with going through initial training and continue to show up unexpectedly as you navigate the career. The pandemic brought its own set of issues, furloughs, and change, but thankfully were at the point where we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
What sets me apart? Hmmm, I think when it comes to my success on social media, it’s been my capability of telling a story. It’s showing my personality to the best of my ability though a little box on the internet. It’s being raw and real and expressing myself.
No question is the job itself interesting on its own, as well as the lifestyle that comes with it. Of course those factors play a part, but I’ve managed to combine who I am, my passions, and what I do into a brand. That in itself is pretty magical and something to be proud of.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week long trip to San Diego, you won’t go wrong with anywhere you go. However, I have a special place in my heart for the Del Mar and Solana Beach area. I have family there so it’s always housed a lot of good memories. Quaint, beautiful beaches, lots of dog friendly places, the race track is there, amazing health conscious restaurants, and wonderful yoga studios.
I love going to The Naked Cafe for breakfast, lunch, or brunch on the weekends. Delicious healthy food and it’s right across the street from the beach.
Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Trader Joe’s are my favorite grocery stores and they are all near by. California is littered with healthy cafes and I love it.
Corepower Yoga also has a ton of locations in San Diego and you can’t go wrong with their sculpt or C2 class.
Brigantine Del Mar is an amazing place for dinner. Their oysters are delicious and pair well with a dirty martini.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I see the words support, encouragement, and love I immediately think of my family and a few close friends of mine.
I’m a strong woman and I take pride in that. I don’t often seek advice, help, or support and when that rare moment comes where I need someone to listen, give advice, or just pick me up when I’m feeling down, this core group does it for me.
They keep me going when I run out of gas. They know me to my core and can spark me back up when I’m running low. I love y’all. Thank you.
