We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Hirsch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’m always going to value the relationship I have with my followers and since Day 1 I’ve made it a priority to respond individually to any/all inquiries I receive. Without my audience’s support, I wouldn’t be able to live my dream job so I value that and appreciate it still more than anything.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think of myself as a self taught digital content creator. My fiance’ got me my first Sony camera about 8 years ago and I self taught myself on all the technical aspects and applied those fundamentals to my vision and where I want to see a photo/video go. I’m super proud to be on the Sony Alpha collective team which has some of the best photographers in the world and it’s such a cool experience to learn from some of them and chat with them on team meetings. I had to take a leap in leaving my full time high school math teaching job to pursue my dream job of traveling the world finding the best food to share with my audience. I’m happy with my decision and I think everyone should chase their dreams. I think at the end of the day I would like people to see the time and effort and commitment I put into each one of my photos/videos. It’s important to me that I capture as much visually to share so that audiences can feel like they are enjoying the dish with me (at least visually)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to Sony for picking me to be the first ‘foodie’ focused photographer on the Alpha Collective team. It’s such an honor and I’m proud to be considered amongst such amazing artists that I’ve looked up to for years.
