Meet Jenny Crawford | Landscape & Exterior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because I love the intersection of entrepreneurship and garden design. To become a garden designer that is financially self-sufficient requires a blend of creativity and business skill sets. I love being my own boss and the final decision-maker on important aspects of a project. It forces me to own my failures and successes. The creative component of garden design helps balance the operations side of my work. Garden design is an outlet to express my point of view and share my love of plants with others. Nature is my palette and I always feel grounded by working with plants, rocks and natural materials.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am so proud of last year’s landscape renovations that I have yet to photograph for my portfolio! With all the rain this spring we have had to delay photo shoots, but I cannot wait to share these projects with my audience. We have some incredibly detailed landscapes. These projects feel fresh and design-forward. Not one is a facsimile of other designers’ work or trends. We brought in multiple trades and artisans to combine talents and create the most desirable outcomes for our clients. I look forward to sharing their work and educating others on the process. These details admittedly complicated execution, but my clients decided to go on the journey with me. These moments of trust and collaboration have resulted in unique lighting, fountains, concrete textures, terrazzo palettes, sculptural art and tile layouts. All customized and beyond impressive, I am confident that they will be a source of inspiration for home-owners and designers alike.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am so excited that baseball season is around the corner! No visit to San Diego would be complete without a trip downtown to enjoy a game at beautiful Petco Park. I love the frozen Mango margaritas with Chamoy and the chunky chips and guacamole from Puesto inside the ballpark. Budget permitting, I would love to spend a day out on the water sailing. Nothing beats the fresh breeze and feeling of being on a sailboat with friends! My favorite brunch spot to take out of towners is High/Low in Oceanside. The food is great and the ocean views make everything okay. I love getting to know what my visitors enjoy doing and cater our outings to their hobbies or interests. From Balboa park, restaurants, museums, beaches, nature hikes, sports or kid friendly amusement parks- anything is possible in this awesome City we live in!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been my greatest supporter in business and life. He acts as a consultant when I get stuck or need another person’s opinion. He has helped me navigate complex relationships with clients and former employees. He has trusted my decision making skills when it’s come to large business investments that have pulled assets away from our household. His lack of fear or concern over my investments has given me confidence that my ideas will become tangible assets without adding unnecessary pressure. I am lucky to have him and he is a talented landscape designer in his own right.
