We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Levine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I think you have a business when you see there is a need in the market place, and you are able to supply that need. By far, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in the field of urology. I believe men are being wheeled into the operating room getting this life saving surgery but are not prepared to deal with the emotional and physical aspects that some of the secondary side effects surgery can bring. My company aims to educate, support and provide community for those dealing with prostate cancer and various other urological issues via the online space.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a physician assistant in the field of urology. I decided to choose this profession 18 years ago for the work life balance. I wanted to work in medicine, but also wanted to have a family and be a mother. I found this profession to give me that ability to focus on both.
I find that Urology was a great surgical sub specialty and I liked taking care of patients after surgery. I see patients for their initial diagnosis, during surgery, and far behind as I continue to make sure they are cancer free.
I have learned that that the way I am with my patients and the words I say really matter. I am dealing with very sensitive topics, and my ability to navigate these issues with a combination of my expertise and humility makes me a compassionate provider. Patients feel this from me, I believe.
I love seeing my patients in the office, but medicine as we know it is changing. It is evolving a lot post COVID and I foresee myself helping more people in a more impactful way in the future via the online space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is my absolute dream city!!! Well, I would probably take them someone near the ocean. The beaches here are the best! I would plan a couple of good hikes around the area also, or maybe rent bikes and ride from one beach town to the next. I would like to stop at a really good brunch spot mid way and then continue on our way.

I would also plan a day at Mission Bay. We could rent some kayaks or paddle boards and do a picnic lunch on the sand.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my biggest supporter in life–Suzanne Wachtel. She has encouraged me and supported me when I needed it the most. She saw what I was capable of, even before I could see it for myself. We hike together, confide in each other, and she is the first person I wanna call when something good happens to me in my life.
