We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Almada and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been interested in being an entrepreneur and also social justice. I started this business because I wanted to support diversity and inclusion within the arts and entertainment industry, with this goal in mind I began to focus on what outcomes I wanted to achieve and applied them to the concepts I learned in business school.

Starting a business can be highly stressful. It is important to recognize the value in overcoming challenges and learning to trust in the process.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

SD Productions Network is a San Diego based film production company and our mission is to be a creative outlet for underserved communities by supporting diversity and inclusion within the arts and entertainment industry.

I think what sets SDPN apart from others in the production industry is our commitment to providing a space for voices that often go unheard to have an outlet that supports their talents and skills.

Business-wise it has been a challenge starting a business because any start-up is a risk, but I believe that our mission is important. In retrospect this business has been satisfying because we have gained knowledge, expertise, and collaborators.

SDPN respects cultural insights and embraces human experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego County has a lot of places to visit but my hometown of Imperial Beach is special because it is a place that out-of-towners love to visit. It is great for a walk on the pier or hanging out at one of the local breweries on Seacoast Drive.

Imperial Beach is the most Southwesterly city in the United States so experiencing day-to-day life here is a diverse experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my mentor Mr. Webster who encouraged me to embrace challenges and focus on brand creation, my alma mater the University of San Diego for believing in me and everyone that continues to help me build connections to thoughtful, successful, and influential people with similar goals.
