We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Hackney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My parents owned their own restaurant when I was growing up, so I learned from them what to expect out of being a business owner. John and I always knew that we wanted to work for ourselves and when the space became available for us to have the opportunity to open up our own restaurant we immediately took the chance and went all in!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are the owner/operators of The Lakefront Tap Room Bar & Kitchen! We pride ourselves on not only having a spectacular view of Lake Arrowhead but also serving some of the freshest dishes and cocktails on the mountain all while brining a little culture and fun! Our journey to where we are today wasn’t always easy but we’ve always managed to overcome any challenge thanks to the help of our extremely hard working managers and staff. It’s because of them that we were able to celebrate our 6th Anniversary this month! We managed to navigate our way through Covid by changing up the way we serve our food and offerings and it showed us that we were capable of much more than we ever thought possible. We love knowing that we’ve been able to help create core memories for our guests by sharing our beautiful view of the lake all while enjoying our food.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop would for sure be to visit Lulubelle’s Coffee shop for some of the best lattes and baked goods around! Everything is made from scratch and baked in house and you can tell! We’d swing by Sky Park to enjoy their beautiful hiking and biking trails and relax afterwards with some beers. One of our stops would be to Hearth & Sage in Top Town Crestline, their shop is always beautifully curated with some unique local finds. Next we’d swing next door to Fort Gregory, they have some great camping and outdoor gear as well as some awesome local swag. Then we’d stop by The Lake Arrowhead Village Pizza Deli for some pies. All their dough and sauces are made from scratch in house and hand tossed, making for some of the best pizza. Their view from the decks is incredible! And last we’d swing by the Tap Room for some drinks!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We more than likely wouldn’t have made such a huge leap of faith in starting our own restaurant from scratch if it hadn’t have been for the mentorship and encouragement from our parents. I saw how hard my parents both worked at running their own restaurant and it’s because of their success we had the confidence to open our own place! Learning all the ends and outs from my dad was crucial. There is so much more to running a restaurant that no body sees and the training we learned from him was invaluable. With all their support we just knew we were making the right decisions all the way.
