We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Rosen and Florencia Abergel, the dynamic duo that make up the band, ShamaMamahS. We’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jen Rosen and Florencia Abergel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We have always had the intent to bring in songs that are accessible to every heart. We know music can be a healing force that can calm and soothe the nervous system, uplift the spirit, encourage and empower. Every single one of our songs has a spirit of its own and a very specific medicine that it offers. Together, our songs create a body of work woven with the same threads of intention: to amplify love, faith, healing and hope. This category of music with lyrics, melodies and frequencies designed to promote well-being, peace, joy and healing does not fall into the current genre categories. As such, we know we offer something unique for listeners- something of value beyond just entertainment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Bringing a song into the world is akin to the birthing process. There are many steps involved from writing lyrics and music, choosing instrumentation, recording, editing, mixing, mastering, filming, producing music videos, and disseminating the music into the world digitally or live via concerts. We are unique in that, for the most part, we have been doing it all ourselves. We came into this partnership with skill sets that have enabled us to do this work. We have also been learning and refining along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in Claremont, a little college town in Southern California below Mt. Baldy. We love taking our dear friends to the Mt. Baldy creek or up into the foothills to sing songs in nature. Among our favorite places to sing and share our music are the Margaret Fowler Gardens at Scripps College and the Earth Dome at the Pomona College farm. You might also find us hanging out and sharing songs by the fountains in the Laemmle Plaza or at the Packing House.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

We would like to thank our family and friends for their love, support and encouragement. From the start they have recognized the value in what we are creating and encouraged us to share it with the world.

We would like to acknowledge our dear soul-sister and collaborator, Katrina Weed, whose powerful poetry has been a constant source of inspiration.  We have had the pleasure of turning many of her poems into songs, and look forward to many more future collaborations.

We would also like to acknowledge another dear musical sister, Jenny Fuller. We are grateful for her sweet presence and angelic, high-soprano vocals.

Of course, we could not be doing this work without the constant inspiration, guidance, and backing we receive from the Divine.  Sometimes we wake up with songs or melodies or hear them in the wind. It is an honor and privilege to bring these songs through and to share them with others, as we know how healing they have been for us when we have received them.
