We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Rierson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The one comment I hear a lot is that Realtors® make a lot of money and they really do not do much. I don’t think these consumers understand what our involvement from the beginning of a transaction to the end of a transaction is, what our expenses are and the fact that we still have to pay our taxes out of that income. We can also work with someone for a very extended period of time and never get paid and often times lose money. If there isn’t a closing on a home, there is no pay day for a Realtor®. I take great pride in providing each of my clients with an exceptional experience whether they are buying or selling. I want them to feel like they are my only client. It is usually the biggest transaction of their life and I want them to feel comfortable in their decisions and valued as my client. And just because we’ve closed does not mean we are done, it is just the beginning for me. I keep in touch with each client far beyond the close of the sale.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I gave becoming a Realtor® a lot of thought over several years. After purchasing our first home, I became more interested. One of my closest friends encouraged me to pursue it, so I slowly started talking to other agents in my area. I am so grateful for the encouragement I received from those that would become my peers. I stayed home with our children for 12 years and decided once our youngest started school that it was time. I am very passionate about helping others, so I decided to go for it and just see what happened. Once I got my license and started working, I was hooked. It is such an exciting feeling to help someone achieve something they may not have believed was even possible. Even after closing I love hearing from my clients and being able to give them advice or resources. It’s all about developing lasting relationships for me. I pride myself on providing an exceptional customer service experience. But in addition, something else that drives me is helping Military, 1st Responders & Educators with their closing costs. I am an active duty Navy wife and understand the sacrifices this community of people make for the benefit of our country and communities. Being able to contribute in this small way fills my heart with joy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are so lucky to live in this little paradise! I think I would take her to Temecula. It’s the perfect get-away and just a short drive north. We would stay at one of the wineries with a spa for the best of both world’s. I love Old Town Temecula, so we would probably have dinner down there in the evening.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business partner, Tracy Martinez, has been a huge encouragement to me over the last year. We went through a transition about a year ago that I didn’t think I could actually follow through on. I am very much a creature of habit and do not like change. With her encouragement, I made the leap and haven’t looked back since. I’m better for it, more confident for it and very thankful.
