We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffrey Leeper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeffrey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wanted the freedom and flexibility that comes with owning my own business. I have worked for plenty of other people along the way, but I always had my sights set on going it alone.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I started out, I simply wanted to be a builder. Twenty years in, I’m realizing that is a very broad category. I have built a lot of different buildings, in a lot of different ways- speculative developments, custom homes for clients, entry-level, high-end luxury, and commercial as well. I am mostly self-taught, which was extremely stressful for a lot of years. Now that I am pretty experienced, that stress is gone, and I truly love what I do. In a perfect world, I would be doing 1-2 custom homes a year for clients, and mix in some speculative development projects along side that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I truly believe that Newport Beach is one of the best places on earth. I feel so fortunate to have been born and raised here. It is such a unique place, with such a variety of features – natural and ‘built’. It all starts with the beaches – we have 7 miles of beautiful beaches, each stretch with it’s own distinct characteristics. Boat life is also a big part of the scene here. Our harbor is incredible, and I particularly like checking out all the beautiful homes on the bay. The Shopping, dining, and night life in this area are obviously world class, although with three young kids at home, we don’t get too involved in all of that!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most definitely my dad. He has supported me in everything I have done, for as long as I can remember. Any success I have had, he deserves a ton of credit for.

Also my wife Nikki. The real estate development business is a wild ride, and the project cycle most definitely affects our personal life as well. She has to constantly adapt to that – navigating our free time, or lack thereof, cash flow, or lack thereof, and my stress levels as well. When I get all-in on a project, she basically picks up the slack, and handles everything else.
