We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is taking the chance to expose yourself to do something you enjoy to achieve abundance but alsomay experience some type of loss. Weather it’s running a business or enjoying an extreme experience like racing. Risk has revolved in every aspect of my business – Starting off by leaving my Fulltime secured job as a medical assistant at one of the best women’s hospital in SD. I knew that if I did not take the risk of leaving what made me feel financially secure for freedom – I would have never done it. I am so happy to say that i made the right choice for risking my secure job to be able to run my own job – Become my own boss! I also wanted the freedom to work when I wanted – as much or as little as i desire! Eventually, I knew I wanted a family and to be able to be a part of my child’s life as much as possible and wanted that freedom. Everyday is a risk – but it’s all about the energy and output you put in order for it to not become a risk.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my journey doing friends and family’s lash extension in my room over 10+ years ago – I was indecisive if this was what I truly wanted to do. I ended up becoming a Medical Assistant – I thought that was the ideal job for me – but I was not happy. I struggled finding myself and what I wanted to do. I struggled investing into my business without business loans. I finally decided to quit my 9-5, and went full force with my practice. As I become more in demand with my clients and their friends and family – I decided to rent a small studio room to expand my business. This help expand my mindset knowing I wanted to grow more with my business. I am now in a small – medium size studio working on my own brand for lash extension supplies and hemp body care. I hope by the end of 2020 I can expand to a slightly bigger studio to offer retail in store and online, along with other services! I learned that it all takes time. It takes risk and it takes patience. If you dont give up – your business doesnt give up on you! The more you give – The more you get in return! I never thought I would be here writing about my journey with a well known local magazine, but here we are! I feel blessed for all the troubles that have made me stronger!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
ANGELEA IAFORNARO – owner of @sugaskincare – she has been a great mentor and support for me as an individual and small business owner. Supporting eachother in many ways besides building our businesses she has taught me how to strive for what you truly want. Go for it – don’t settle! Thank you for all your support ♥️
