We had the good fortune of connecting with Janine Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The Tea With Qwns podcast started from the realization that the people that were giving advice to 20-somethings, were usually white, didn’t have the same background as we did and were not going through the same struggles. As mixed women of color, we did not feel that there was someone in media – especially in the podcast industry – that looked like us or had the same life experiences as we did. We wanted to create the Tea With Qwns podcast to serve as a safe space and community for people who are not usually represented in mainstream media to share their stories and have candid conversations about issues that matter to us and the Qwndom.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What makes the Davis duo so unique is that they are unapologetically themselves – that is what attracts our listeners to become part of the #Qwndom. We truly treat the Qwndom like a sisterhood and are there for anyone’s questions or life moments. We often include submissions from our listeners and address them in our episodes! I, Qwn Janine, am a digital marketing maven and Jerralyn is a public relations Qwn. Together, we treated Tea with Qwns like our baby and used our expertise to grow the account and podcast. It was very much a combination of our passions that propelled TWQ to where it is today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh! – this is an easy one because we often hosted friends in this beautiful city (pre-Covid, of course)! First, we would welcome them to our humble abode in North Park – the most central part of San Diego. Take them down University Avenue to check out the boutiques, coffee shops, food, and more. Then, we’d take our guest further down the road to Hillcrest to our favorite brunch spot, Snoozed (best bacon and eggs benny EVER), and spend the afternoon thrifting. We’d end the night in Little Italy and take them to our favorite Italian spot, Mimmo’s. Finish off with some cannolis at Cafe Zucchero. And that’s just day one! Other popular spots we’d take a friend are Mission Beach/ Belmont Park, Balboa Park, Old Town, Carlsbad, and La Jolla, to name a few. We’ve got you covered!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to recognize the #Qwndom! Our listeners have been avid supporters over our 2 years of creating content. They’ve listened as we shared our heartbreak, struggles, success, and wins alike. We truly view our listeners as our family – our brothers, our sisters, our Qwns – who are just trying to keep their head up and live a fabulous life!
