We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacey Gillette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind the success of Crow Salon is kindness. When I first opened my salon January 2015 I wanted to create a place that I wanted to work, I wanted to create a place where equality was felt when you walked in wether you where a client or a stylist. A place where a client can come and didn’t feel judged for not knowing how to pronounce Balayage, or a stylist can come and not feel out of place because she didn’t feel as perfect as the owner or other stylist. Now I don’t have any business training and to be honest barely made it through school. But I care about everyone of my clients and everyone of my girls that works at Crow Salon on a deeper level that I believe has made it successful because we all know it’s not the not so trendy random name of the salon that brings people in..

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m really not to sure what sets us apart from other salons, I really feel that there are different places for different people. I feel that we attract a certain individual to our place and it doesn’t make us better then the next place just different. There was and is nothing that easy about owning a business but it is rewarding and everyday I walk in I’m still completely humbled by the experience.. Someone asked me when we opened up after the first shut down in June from Covid-19. She asked me “did you miss doing hair?” I said “no!” And I thought about that question, my reason was I missed my people, my clients, my stylist, I don’t do what I do because I love doing hair. I do what I do because I love people and making them happy and I do that with doing there hair and friendship. That was the biggest thing I have learned in life and business. Alan Watts has a quote that has stuck with me for many years. “What would you do if money was no object?” And my answer is this! And in that success will come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That is a hard one for me… Hope you like riding horse’s, Cause we are heading out to the ranch. Ok fine, can I skip this one? I’m not the cool go outskie type. Taco shop (all of them) Beach? Hike some mountains East bound in Lakeside Taco shop again. Maybe I forget what we can do since most things are still shut down or limited do to Covid. *everything is interesting these days giving the circumstances.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Violet and Asa. Thank you for showing me unconditionally love. I am where I am because of you, thank you for the endless daily motivation to better myself. Remember the sky is the limit little ones, I love you!
