Meet Isabelle Verona | Artist and Painting Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabelle Verona and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2018 I became a mom and because of all the demands of being a stay home mom I couldn’t keep up with my old business. I used to post weekly art and crafts tutorials on YouTube. I was doing great and I grew my audience to 450k followers on YouTube. I used to do all the work by myself so I struggled to keep the consistency after my son was born, and you need consistency to make money using social media. So in 2021 I decided to try something else. I always loved painting watercolor and after practicing a lot during pandemic and noticing that my painting tutorials did great on YouTube, I invited some friends to a park, bought some extra materials and did my first donation-based watercolor painting party (that was in March 2021). And since that I got some private students, did more donation-based classes, private painting parties, got to teach weekly in a domiciliar school, monthly in a yoga studio and now I’m kind of starting it all over because I moved to California in the end of 2021. I’m still getting to know the area and new students. I teach in my garage/studio and in my clients choice of place. I wanted to have my own business to give me the flexibility to still be able to enjoy my family and watch my son before he starts school. I also noticed that people that never painted before were able to make beautiful paintings in my class. They were very excited about that and I just thought that I should invest in that. I love seeing people happy with what they created with my help.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love painting watercolor and creating nature-inspired paintings, specially inspired by the beach. I’ve been painting since I was 12, but I learned in the past 7 years that I love teaching art. I love finding ways to simplify the process of painting something. I create simple step-by-steps and I also like teaching techniques so that anyone can paint without my help too. In my classes I use the best option I can find for student grade materials. This makes a big difference on the end result of the paintings. I’m still in the beginning of my business, specially here in California, but I’m very excited to get to know new students and to keep sharing my journey on social media. I hope I can help people find a way to relax, create a hobby or a business through my classes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m loving San Diego, I moved here in the end of 2021 from Florida. My favorite things to do here are hiking and going to the beach. I also love Balboa park, the zoo and the fact that everywhere I go there is a park I can play with my son. I can’t wait to have my family over (from Brazil). It will be great to show them all the parks, beautiful trails and beaches that make this place so special to me. My favorite trail so far is the Torrey Pines State Preserve trail and my favorite park is Balboa Park. I haven’t been to Little Italy yet, but I’m curious about the restaurants there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m grateful for my husband who always gives me support so that I can try my creative ideas. I’m also grateful for my parents for always believing in me and for being my biggest fans.
