We had the good fortune of connecting with Holly Kalkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Holly, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my business is the ability to relate to my clients and to put myself in their shoes. I’m always trying to think through things from their perspective and to understand it as if I were the client. How would I want to receive information? How would I want things handled as it relates to budget, vendor relationships, and the overall feeling of their special day? Each and every one of my couples is special to me and I want them to feel and know that.
What should our readers know about your business?
This business was built because I always have loved weddings. There is an energy and excitement that is unlike any other type of party. I always loved going to them and then I especially loved planning my own many years ago. From there, I thought this was the perfect outlet for my organization and creative planning skills. I make sure to really listen to my couple’s priorities – whether it be to ensure that we do not go a penny over the budget, find those special extras to set the wedding apart or to make sure they have the perfect fit with their vendors. I like to work through the details as I would want to see them if I were the client. We step through each area of the wedding planning process from start to finish. I ensure it’s fun, easy, and stress free for my busy couples. Our team is known for our patience, attention to detail and great relationships. It never gets old watching the bride go down the aisle, the mother of the groom dance with her son or the bride & groom sharing that special first kiss. My team and I are so lucky & grateful to a part of those special life moments.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love planning fun things for visiting family & friends! Here’s a kid friendly weekend sample of what we’d do – Friday Pick up breakfast items at The French Oven, Scripps Ranch Scenic hike at Torrey Pines State Reserve, La Jolla Early dinner with amazing sunset views at Cordiano Winery, Escondido Saturday Horse Back Riding at Surfside Ranch, San Diego Ice Cream at Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop, Gaslamp, followed by strolling & shopping Dinner at the Bali Hai, Shelter Island Sunday Brunch at Snooze, Hillcrest Paddle boarding on the bay next to the Bahia Hotel, Mission Beach Dinner at Duke’s La Jolla
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to my friends, Kimmy & Matt Leighton of A Little Scene. When I was starting, they already had a thriving business of their own, also in the event industry. They gave me sound advice, guided me through many questions, helped me formulate a plan and were instrumental in getting my first website off the ground.
