We had the good fortune of connecting with Himani Jadeja and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Himani, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My brand is to authentically share the beautiful diasporic identity (South Asian and Western) that I and many others in the South Asian community identify with through fashion. The most important goal and success factor of my brand is to build inspiration and empower my community to take pride in our culture: the good and the bad. If I can make even 1% of my audience embrace their culture authentically, I would consider my brand to be successful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My style is my art. The focus of my art is to curate Indowestern looks. This type of style has always existed and was often seen worn during fancy Desi events, such as weddings. What truly sets me apart is that although I share the fancier type of Indowestern style, my focus lies in curating this style in our daily wear, such as street fashion or while running errands and such. It’s all about how we can incorporate a little bit of our culture into the clothes we wear daily.

I wasn’t always drawn to this type of style. My culture is something I used to be embarrassed about incorporating into my daily life. Many South Asian individuals who share this dual identity share this sentiment of being so busy trying to fit into the Western culture we were raised in that we forgot about our culture and its beauty. But, as I grew older, I slowly began to realize that my culture is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a huge part of me and should be shared with the world with pride.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am lucky that there are too many to name here. The list would go on forever. Let’s just say that my closest friends and my boyfriend have really encouraged and been there for me through the highs and lows of building this brand and carving a small little corner for myself in this world of Instagram. Whether it was needing words of encouragement or helping through the photoshoots or helping brainstorm ideas, I am here because of them.
