We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Over the years I’ve filled my library with inspiring books by incredible minds and talented entrepreneurs and I reference them often in my career. I continue to go back to a simple phrase and title of one specific book, “People Over Profit.” It’s a beautifully simple concept that if you live and work with the value of truth and treating people well, rather than with a focus on revenue, you will ultimately be far more successful.
This concept has inspired the core values of my business, The Fairway Collective. Even more so, coming from a for-profit corporate environment initially, when building TFC, it was important to me that we create an agency for brands and businesses, where the goal is never to sell products but to provide the best services to fit their needs and reach their goals. I also wanted to ensure we were working with progressive brands, forward-thinking businesses, and hopefully encourage businesses to better themselves. And lastly, I wanted to cultivate a work environment of positivity, encouragement, kindness, and progress.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is The Fairway Collective, an all-inclusive digital marketing agency in San Diego. We focus on inbound marketing such as social media, organic search, paid advertising, brand development, and creative content development to elevate a brand’s presence in the digital space and move our clients forward. But our clients are already moving FORWARD…
At TFC we are proud to partner with female-owned businesses, black-owned businesses, businesses working to better our world, businesses that take a political stance for a greater good, and businesses working toward clean energy, sustainable production, environmental protection, and social justice.
Our agency is dedicated to working with the best of the best to ensure we are serving a collective good and moving our world in the right direction.
Limiting the types of businesses and brands we would be willing to work with may sound like a challenge but contrarily it has established our agency as dedicated to our ethos and the right agency for the best clients. We’ve learned that in business and in life, it’s worth it to stick with your values and to maintain sight of your mission. By not compromising we have developed a powerful reputation and amazing relationships with our clients.
We like to use the phrase ‘Fairway Forward’ as a hashtag, mentality, and mantra.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a San Diego native and grew up in Encinitas, so we would absolutely start there! First things first, coffee. We would start at Better Buzz, their Best Drink Ever (yes that’s the name) is really the best. Wandering 101 with coffee in hand, we’d make sure to stop by the famous Queen Eileen’s to shop for all kinds of unique pieces and a good laugh. It wouldn’t be a San Diego tour without a little beach time and my favorite beach is just up the road in Leucadia. Beacon’s is a secluded, cliffside beach and the perfect spot to lounge or taking a long stroll. We do quite a few of our client and product photoshoots there. Lunch would have to be TKO tacos from Fish Shop, make sure to get them on flour and add avocado, you can thank me later. Best fish tacos in town! Once we’ve had our fill we’d head south to Little Italy to explore the colorful Saturday morning farmers market, catch a free (donations accepted) yoga class in the grass of Balboa Park, and walk the boardwalk along the harbor into Seaport Village for some kite watching, live music, and souvenir shopping. Lastly, my favorite secret spot for drinks and dinner is the speakeasy-style restaurant Garibaldi, named after the California state fish. Garibaldi is tucked away on the rooftop of a hotel in the harbor and is accessed by a secret door inside the hotel’s main restaurant. They have a beautiful herb garden right there on the roof that they pick from for both food and drinks. Insanely fresh!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Let’s give it up for my incredible team and amazing clients! The past year and a half has been a wild ride but I have worked with and alongside some of the most positive, hardworking, and talented people. We’ve kept our heads held high and their dedication never faltered!
