We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Sliwinski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Warminster Pennsylvania. I have a very strong Military background, both grandfather’s served in the Army, my Uncle was a Vietnam Veteran (Marine Corps) and my father served in the Navy. My youngest son is also a Marine Corps Veteran. My father’s work ethic taught me to be competitive and that I can do whatever I want if it’s important to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I’ve worked with the Veteran Community for almost 20 years now. I’ve gotten to learn what is most needed to help support our nations Veterans and First Responders. PTSD help and support is very much needed within this community. I’ve either helped run or personally run a crisis line for our Veterans, First Responders and their families for almost 2 decades. I’m extremely proud of the fact that we offer support and assistance to our nations Vietnam Veterans. I’ve worked very hard in regards to fundraising and networking to get to where the Honor and Courage Foundation is today. I’ve learned to be persistent in everything ranging from finding good volunteers, fundraising, and going above and beyond for our nations heroes. I want the world to know that the Honor and Courage Foundation is working hard every single day to help eradicate Veteran suicide.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A weekend trip would include a 3 hour drive to Arlington Virginia to Arlington National Cemetary. I think everyone should experience walking through these hallowed grounds to see the sacrifice so many men and women have made for each and every one of us.

We would also go to downtown Philadelphia to visit Independence Hall, see the Liberty Bell, and maybe stop for a bite to eat in one of the downtown Philly restaurants.

Next we would visit Washington Crossing. The location where George Washington crossed the Delaware river. There is lots of history at this location, so we would stop and take it all in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out is to every American who wore and wears the uniform of our United States Military. I’m forever grateful for each and every one of them.

Also a shout out to my youngest son, a Marine Corps Veteran who inspired me to start the Honor and Courage Foundation.
