We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Radloff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
In Soapmkaing, due to the chemical reaction that needs to take place between the oils and Sodium Hydroxide, lye, it takes 30 days for the soap to be considered safe enough to use. The lye is only used to create the chemical reaction, and disipates out of the soap when it is ‘curing’ for those 30 days. But unfortunately I can’t just go whip anything up, and have it ready quickly. Alot of pre planning is necessary for soapmaking and timely releases.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First and foremost, I am a soapmaker. I specialize in making soaps with tons of color chunks in them. This effect is known as confetti/terrazzo soap. I fell in love with this technique because I felt it was the best way to use up any excess soap so nothing goes to waste. Every bar I cut into with this style brings me joy, so this is the only technique I use now. I also make other bath products! I am known for making large bath bombs, that shoot color, actually float, and leave you feeling nice and silky at the end of your bath! My most famous bath bomb type has a dinosaur inside. Soapmaking has many tips and tricks with the ways you can achieve different bars, and it took a lot of trial, error, research, and use of best practices to get to where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend a day in Temecula visiting Old Town for lunch, Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula Wine Valley for a tasting, and then finishing with dinner closer to San Diego at the Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens. It is lovely!

I would recommend a brunch cruise on the Hornblower on a Sunday, and then spending the late Afternoon walking Around Balboa Park.

I would recommend a trip to Dim Tai Fung at UTC for lunch, and then spendin the day shopping and finishing it with drinks at Born and Raised.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my husband for encouraging me to start my business. My mother for helping me many a late night. My soapmakers group on Instagram, you guys are the best. My best soap friend Karly, who has been a total God send for me as a maker, to have an honest place to talk business.
