We had the good fortune of connecting with Hashemi and Elizabeth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hashemi and Elizabeth, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We never intended on having a full time eBike rental business let alone a full service electric bike shop. in Huntington Beach. Our thought process was to have a weekend, part-time business while still working our other jobs that would earn us another stream of income. After one year of operating ‘Fat Bike Rentals’ on weekends only, we decided to go all in and work full time to build a new kind of bike shop that specializes in electric mobility. In year two, we also launched our own brand of American made electric chopper style bikes, PLUM Motorbikes. What started off as a passion and hobby has now turned into our sole source of income and livelihood.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Fat Bike Rentals, we decided to not be like every other bike shop by offering only premium electric fatbikes and excellent customer service, You can find your basic bikes elsewhere. We are most proud of and excited about launching our own brand of eBikes designed and built in the USA. We’ve worked extremely hard, putting in countless hours, blood, sweat and tears (literally), working from the office, car, home and even on a bicycle. It definitely was not easy but we overcame challenges through our faith in God, encouragement from one another and positive customer feedback. We’ve learned along the way that no matter how successful you are, mountaintop or valley low, to be grateful for your loved ones and cherish every moment together. Even if you’re working too much and about to strangle one another. Lol. We are not successful through hard work alone but through the strength, blessings, gifts and talents that God has given us. We would like the world to know that we love Jesus, we love people, we really like riding bikes and especially love seeing people have fun on our bikes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If our friend was visiting from out of town for a week we’d ask them kindly to come help us at the shop because we are so busy. After work we’d reward them with the best authentic Italian pizza in town, Zero Zero Pizzeria. JK we wouldn’t make them work unless they really wanted to. Here’s what we’d recommend to experience: Exploring the coastline from Huntington Beach down to Newport Beach or up North to Sunset Beach on our electric bikes. On their bike adventures we’d recommend them checking out the following destinations, eateries, and watering holes: The Wedge (famous surf spot), Huntington Pier, Banzai Surf Lessons, paddle boarding, kayaking, watch surfing at the pier, relax on the beach, play with the random dog at Dog beach, drum circle on Sunday evenings, and wheelies down the bikes path Places we’d recommend to eat and drink, all accessible by our eBikes (no car needed): Cruisers in Newport, Milk & Honey, Normita’s Surf City Tacos (best fish tacos), Sushi on Fire, Dukes, Sandy’s, TK Burger, Golden Road Brewery and RIIP Brewery in Sunset Beach and SuperMex
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
