We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Simas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking has played a significant role in my career. I pursued graphic design at aa technical school attached to my high school as a form of escapism from social pressure. I was able to learn and enjoy design and realize how passionate I was about it. Once it was time to graduate I couldn’t see myself doing anything else and realized how much I love what I was doing. All creative careers are a risk because there is often a lack of support and the known competitive nature of the industry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a graphic designer and visual artist. I’ve been studying are for years starting from high school at vocational school and continuing into college. Before I completed my studies (which I will never be done, there always so much to learn), I wanted to get my start industry with the idea of hitting the ground running. Being in school full time, working multiple jobs, and supporting myself was one of the biggest challenges, but I never lost sight of what I wanted and where I was going. What I’ve learned is that you need to find balance and make time for things you enjoy, or you’ll end up a candle lit on both ends.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First thing I would do is take them to get some brunch and some mimosas, then off to an art museum. It’s quiet relaxing, peaceful, and inspiring, most even have a garden with amazing atmospheres. After that, the boardwalk on the beach to ride bikes and enjoy the view and scene of riding from venice to santa monica. After that, a pit stop to Amoeba Music, then a stroll through ventura boulevard, into some of the best vintage shops I’ve seen. A break in Griffith Park to hangout in the sunshine and then see where the night goes, whether it’s hanging out at home or venturing out into LA’s or orange county’s nightlife.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s a lot of people who have helped support me and uplift me on my career path. The two I would like to shoutout is my Aunt and Uncle, who have helped support me in every way and have given me a clear idea of what a beautiful life looks like. Because of them, I have been able to use my passion as drive and balance it out with hard work along the way. Without them and my parents, I would never have been able to get this far and find happiness in what I love.
