We had the good fortune of connecting with Gracie Fontes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gracie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a healthcare worker, I was thrust right into the front lines during the Pandemic. I was feeling down, burnout and fatigued. I knew I needed an outlet. I had this camera that I bought few years ago that was just collecting dust on my shelf. I began using it to take pictures in my backyard. I had no idea what I was doing back then. All I knew was that it felt right. I had unlocked a part of me that longed to create, and so I listened to the part and kept going. Now, photography is my passion. I don’t know where I’d be without it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I’m not shooting, I work full-time at a Skilled Nursing Facility. My job consists of caring for and assisting others. On my days off, taking pictures provides me with an escape from my everyday working life. It gives me a much needed opportunity to express my creativity after working in a healthcare environment. My favorite photo subjects are sunsets, beautiful landscapes, and urban areas. Getting to the level I’m at today definitely came with a learning curve, but I kept doing what I loved, and my passion for taking photos allowed me to enjoy every step in the process. I’m just hoping that my photos can inspire other people to enjoy the outdoors or sunsets. And to travel, or even just visit local places that they discover through my pictures

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting California, I would love to show them around my favorite spots in San Diego. First, I would take them to La Jolla, which has many ocean
activities, shops and restaurants to choose from. Then I’d take them down to
Balboa Park. They have a lot of museums that would be fun to tour. Lastly, I’d
take them to Downtown San Diego, where we’d hop around the different bars
and restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to my Primeshot Family, who constantly inspire me to improve upon my craft. To all the creators I look up to who have been generous enough to share their knowledge and offer their mentorship, I appreciate all of you. Moreover, I would like to say thank you to the friends I’ve made along the way, as well as my followers for being so supportive. Last but not least, shoutout to my family for supporting me in doing what I love. Without them, I would not be able to do any of it.
