We had the good fortune of connecting with Gordon Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gordon, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to separate work and life. More recently, I’ve come to believe that if you strive to earn a living doing something that is in complete alignment with your personal values, work/life balance becomes less stressful. Secondly, if you’re able to position yourself in a way where you’re in control of your time, you can then decide how much time you give to earning a living and how much you give to family and loved ones. Creating a source that generates passive income can be very helpful in controlling your time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our company, Innergy Financial is focused on helping understand the connection between identity and financial success. We help people in two ways, strategy and mindset.

A company core value that is close to my heart is diversity. We believe that everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, etc. deserves a shot. Financial literacy should not be only accessible by the wealthy.

A vital part of success involves learning from someone who is where you want to be. I have been so fortunate to be able to work with my mentor Karlo Salgado, CEO of Innergy Financial. He has helped me so much in business but also on a personal level.

Growth is not easy and it seems like every time I set a goal for myself in my life, challenges came up. The biggest challenge is getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Often times we get in our own way.

One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned is that we have to know ourselves to be able to know what to do to be able to become a better version of ourselves. Sometimes ego and pride get in the way of achieving our goals. Knowing ourselves allows us to recognize when ego and pride are getting in the way.

I believe that everybody was meant for success and greatness. The quality of life that we achieve will be determined by how much we’re willing to get out of our comfort zone to improve personally and help others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are blessed to live in San Diego county with so much to do so close by. I would first find out if there was anything that they were hoping to do. Then, we would have to visit the beaches starting in Oceanside I’m going down to San Diego. We would visit some of the taco shops, again starting in Oceanside and working our way down to the border and possibly crossing over to find some taco shops and TJ. and there are plenty of places to go hiking or fishing. We can visit the zoo, the wild animal park, Seaworld, seaport Village and Balboa Park. We could also head inland to Julian or Valley Center. We will definitely have to get some friends and family together at a park or at the beach for a carne asada. Lots to do!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Karlo Salgado
