Meet Georgie | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Georgie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Georgie, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Originally, I’m from Lima, Peru. My parents and I migrated to the United States when I was still in elementary school, but before then, I briefly lived in Italy and Switzerland. Before I started middle school they split, and by high school I was living in Las Vegas. After Vegas, I lived in Denver for about a year, and after that, I ended up in Los Angeles. Along with all the traveling and relocating came a decent amount of solitude. Solitude that allowed me to pick up and learn new skills. One of those skills was oil painting. I began teaching myself how to paint shortly after moving to LA in 2016. Since then it has become the most important aspect of my life that formal education was never able to provide. For starters, it has helped me introspectively in the sense that reflection along with a creative outlet has become a formula for self-healing. Put it this way, if you were talking out of anger or fear, do you think your words could be misconstrued by others? What about love? How would you explain your love to someone who doesn’t love you back? As an artist, I’ve been able to find therapy in staying creative, and using it as a form of communicating things that aren’t easily put into words. Besides the emotional impact, my art has taught me that with dedication and pride, sky’s the limit. I’m not the most successful artist on paper, if anything, you could consider me to be a “struggling artist,” but in my heart and in this present moment I feel success in the sense that I use my skill to the very best of my ability and only strive to do better for myself and make the people around me proud.
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Whether you like bright colors, scary themes, or even a little kink, my artwork might be right up your alley. Some of my work is a little more surreal, others more contemporary. Most of the time, the art is a hybrid of both. Most of them are free-handed, meaning I went right into them without sketching. For the most part, I take pride in my diverse and versatile palette. Not one painting looks like the other, yet they’re all similar in some way. In terms of professionalism, I’m still growing and learning. The art world isn’t easy, and as somewhat of a newbie, I am beginning to see. My goal is to one day reach the right eyes and form a conversation that could inspire others in similar ways that inspire me to create.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first thing I’d do is cruise. I’m thinking starting off in Santa Monica, taking Sunset to the hills and going up to Mulholland Drive. The scenery up there is beautiful and it has inspired a few of my paintings. Los Angeles has an incredible food scene, but one of my all time favorite spots has got to be Terroni. I dream about their shaved truffle pasta.
Now, the most exciting part about Los Angeles for me is the nightlife. One of the very first places I would bring someone who’s never been to LA before to would be West Hollywood. From E.P. & L.P. to the Peppermint Club, to the Abbey, Weho never fails to provide unforgettable experiences.
On my last day I’d most likely like to have a beach day. An ideal beach day for me in Los Angeles would probably be towards Malibu and stopping by the Reel Inn on the way there or back for some great seafood.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Living in LA in my early twenties wasn’t easy for me, but I am very grateful for all the beautiful friendships that have made the experience enjoyable and worthwhile.
