We had the good fortune of connecting with Faaris Sattar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faaris, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“When you can’t stay motivated, stay consistent”

There’s no secret trick to success, but this quote is the closest thing to one. If I’d waited for motivation to strike every time I wanted to make a song, I’d be nowhere. The days where I’ve really moved the needle are the ones where I had less than zero motivation but decided to show up anyways. It’s not about waiting for the right time or the right mood, I had to teach myself how to show up for the day and be content with whatever progress I’d made that day. Even if it’s just listening to beats, re-working older songs, even filming social media content, there’s too much that needs to be done and too much I want to accomplish for me to not show up every chance I get.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of my ability to stay authentic yet still interesting and engaging. Especially with hip/hop, it’s a genre filled with artists pretending to be someone else or exaggerating certain aspects of their lives. I’ve always talked about what’s true to me whether that’s about feeling confident, insecure, infatuated, or whatever else the case may be. Conveying my thoughts is such a priority in my music which is why I’ve always put so much thought and emphasis into crafting my lyrics. I’d say lyricism is what naturally drew me to this genre so naturally my main focus is delivering lines that stand out by either being relatable or clever, I don’t want to waste a single moment in a song. On top of that I think my instrumental choice is another differentiator, each beat is unique in its own way, and I say that because I’ve never heard anybody else with a similar sound. I think it’s the combination of my words and instrumentals that curate sounds for each occasion. One song will have you upbeat and dancing, the other will have you zoned into what I’m saying, waiting for the next line to hear my tie the song together with a cohesive theme or message.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being from Austin, Texas, I’m a huge fan of the nature and scenery this city has to offer. I’m making sure they come at a time when the weather is nice because I’m taking them kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, as well as hikes around the area. We’ll spend a good amount of time at Zilker Park, home of the annual Austin City Limits Music Festival. In terms of food there’s just so many options and I absolutely love all of them. They’re getting some barbeque, some Mediterranean, Halal Bros is a personal favorite of mine. Tex-Mex is also huge here so I have to make sure we stop by an authentic food truck along the way. The 360 bridge is also a fun site, it overlooks the lake and the Pennyback Bridge and is one of my favorite Austin views, especially at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents deserve a ton of credit for being supportive throughout this entire process. Their support and words of encouragement have really pushed me to get all of this going. Other supportive people have been some of the artists I’ve gotten to know along the way like Abhi the Nomad, who is always helping out up and coming artists whether it’s through music feedback, performance advice, marketing tips, etc.
