We had the good fortune of connecting with Ernestine Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ernestine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting The Old Town Soap Company began in 2012 as a form of Psychological Therapy while I was serving on Active Duty in the Military. At times while serving in the military (and in life period), there can be many challenges both professionally and personally. Therefore, it is my belief that we all need healthy mental outlets that allow us to express ourselves in a positive way. Crafting and specifically Soapmaking happens to be one of the artistic ways in which I express myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At The Old Town Soap Company, we specialize in the responsible sourcing of natural ingredients for incorporation into our carefully handcrafted Skincare & Wellness products.

What sets us apart is the fact that we are a Black-Owned, Woman-Owned and Veteran-Owned & Operated company with a strong emphasis on Corporate Citizenship. With regards to our manufacturing process, we strive to source top quality all-natural ingredients free of harmful chemicals. Additionally, we proudly manufacture our products using all-natural herbs, colorants and 100% pure essential oils which is another strong differentiator for The Old Town Soap Company.

The Old Town Soap Company is excited about where we have come from, but more importantly, where we are going in 2022. We are ecstatic about resuming our “Soapmaking for Therapy” workshop as well as introducing new workshops that serve various communities, groups, organizations, etc.

Experiencing the growth that we have seen to date has not always been “a walk in the park”, but at the same time, we have also been blessed with various doors being opened for us. When faced with challenges, we take an analysis as to what our challenges are and develop strategic methods for overcoming them. Throughout our journey, we have learned many lessons, but one of the greatest lessons has been that it is so important to remain open to new possibilities.

We at The Old Town Soap Company want the world to know that we are a company that believes in establishing and growing genuine relationships through personal interaction and transparency. We love hearing from our customers and learning how to address their concerns. We want the world to know that our doors are always open and we want to SEE YOU!!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For people visiting the San Diego area, Liberty Public Market is a MUST STOP as there are SOOOO many things to do there such as eating, drinking, shopping and hanging out with loved ones or even strangers LOL. That is how friendly the atmosphere and people are. Not to mention the amazing weather to go along with it. In all honestly, being on Liberty Station alone creates a great mood for leisure and recreation. While visiting Liberty Public Market, don’t forget to stop by The Old Town Soap Company to say hello and attend one of our fun workshops while in town!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the years I have received support from many people and would like to dedicate this shoutout to all of them as a way to express my appreciation. THANK YOU ALL!!!
