We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Cary and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, what do you attribute your success to?
The biggest factor behind my success is definitely my intention. I chose to build my own business with the sole intention of helping people to be the best that they can be. Through uncomplicating someone’s finances, we are able to free up time they didn’t know was there and allow them the opportunity to destress and achieve more in their own career or personal life. I have so much fun watching my clients focus on their passions without money-anxiety.

I also believe my mindset impacts who I intend to be and the way I talk to myself is critical. I was successful before others could see it. I believed it, felt it, and owned it for no one but myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I studied Engineering in school – not finance. Once I entered the “real world” I was making a good amount of money as an engineer but I had absolutely no idea what to do with it. All I knew was that credit cards are bad and saving is good….not very helpful in the grand scheme of life and finances. So, I ended up hiring a friend from college who was a financial advisor at North Star Resource Group and she changed my whole perception of the world just by educating me on a few financial topics.

I felt alive. Confident. Reborn. I felt like I could do anything in the world – be anyone I wanted. I needed to bring this information far and wide and to as many people as I could. So, I quit being an engineer and thus became my mission to spread financial empowerment.

I love working with small business owners, entrepreneurs, and sales professionals because I can relate to everything they are currently dealing with. Passionate, action-oriented, willing to invest in themselves, emotionally-aware and with a growth mindset now let me tell you why..

I find most of us think about finances as black and white numbers, excel spreadsheets. When in reality, money is very intertwined with our emotions. We make emotional decisions and don’t realize the stories we are telling ourselves. Those small ideas from childhood that are swirling around our unconscious mind.. men control the finances, hard work equals money, entrepreneurs rarely succeed, business owners can’t have personal lives, if you start too late you’re screwed, etc. It can be so overwhelming and that stops right here, right now.

Here’s my secret…. I’m all about making money fun! I help my clients uncover what is important to them, define their tangible goals, get organized and get on track. The path from point A to point B is easy and empowering when you have a team supporting your deeply held values, goals, ambitions, and dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would immediately hit the beach! Yoga, sailing, long walks and good talks. It’s my favorite place to relax and unwind as often as I can. Our food is one of a kind and tastes like it was just picked at a farm down the road. La Jolla, Coronado, and Encinitas restaurants have great views and good vibes. Of course, they would have to try the famous Cardiff crack and go on a scenic hike. Another favorite of mine is history – we have museums, monuments, and the great Balboa Park to explore. I love arts and crafts so the Artisan and Farmer’s markets are an opportunity to appreciate local talent!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have been my biggest support of all time. Their guidance, motivation, encouragement and reliability has made me the person I am today. I’m so blessed and appreciative of all they have provided me throughout my life and I’m so happy I can make them proud just by being myself.

My mentor, Zach MacDougall, took a chance on me. His unwavering support and willingness to take me under his wing has taught me so much about the industry. I’ve learned an incredible amount from many wonderful advisors and teammates at North Star Resource Group – Maximilian Clifford, Erika Fahrmann and so many more. Teamwork makes the dream work!!
