We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Basso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Throughout my journey to becoming a therapist and working for many different places, I knew I wanted to create a modern boutique therapy practice. I founded my group practice with the focus on changing the view of what mental health treatment looks like (gone are the days of a dull, windowless therapy room), who seeks therapy and helping eliminate the stigma and taboos of mental health in general. It’s 2024 and working on yourself and being mindful is cool! Our team offers virtual sessions to busy high-achievers throughout the state of California. Every therapist at our practice can hold a smaller client list which guarantees a tailored approach for each individual. We help our clients overcome anxiety, perfectionism, and relationship challenges. When I grew my business to hire a team of therapists I knew it was important to find therapists who prioritized their wellbeing as much as I did. I believe it’s important as therapists to practice what we preach as individuals so we can show up as our best self and go deeper with our clients.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I founded Erica Basso Therapy as a boutique therapy practice that offers a modern therapy approach for high-achieving women. I also hold the privilege of being a clinical supervisor to pre-licensed therapists who work for the practice. We practice what we preach and it is a non-negotiable for us to live a healthy, balanced life. Here’s what sets us apart:
Our approach is both holistic and integrative.
This means we combine traditional talk therapy with the latest evidence-based techniques that feels compassionate, down to earth, and non-judgmental. We don’t just treat your symptoms, but consider the issues that bring a person to session in the context of you as a whole person.
We are collaborative in nature.
Meaning we talk in session and provide our feedback and insights when appropriate. Gone are the days of the ‘blank state’ therapist. We believe the relationship (rapport) is often the biggest indicator of successful outcomes in treatment so we foster this relationship by offering a safe and supportive environment.
We accept several insurance plans to make therapy more affordable and accessible.
We commonly hear how difficult it is to find a good in-network provider. That’s why our practice has decided to contract with many major insurance plans.
We offer virtual sessions to make therapy convenient and accessible to busy high-achievers.
We understand how busy life can get and it can be difficult for high-achieving women to imagine how to fit in therapy in their already busy schedule. Our team offers virtual sessions so you can conveniently fit therapy into your busy schedule, without having to sit in traffic to get there.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a new San Diego resident, I already have my favorite spots! I love taking visitors on a ocean view hike at Torrey Pines. We would need to grab a healthy lunch (& dessert) at either Nectarine Grove or the Kitchen at MCASD (the views are stunning!) and explore Windansea Beach or Scripps Oceanography. At night I’d take them to my favorite Italian spot, Cesarina for homemade pasta.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been beside me for 12 years now and offered his support in every step of my journey to getting here today. From undergrad, to graduate school, to founding my company he has been a stable force when I felt full of doubt or anxiety. I believe who a woman marries has a huge affect on her career outlook. It’s important for high-achieving women to be with a partner who will not be in competition with her success or feel overpowered by it.
