We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kristine Loharun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Kristine, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Anatomy Chiropractic is a highly specialized chiropractic clinic because we blend two different low force techniques together: Atlas Orthogonal and Activator Chiropractic. These two gentle techniques are very precise and give amazing results that are objective and reproducible for our patients. We also use the latest low level laser technology in the world to help our patients heal faster. Our approach to care is unique, specialized, and very effective.

My partner and I saw the potential these low force techniques had when we were working as associates in Washington. The clinic owner ran a successful practice for over thirty years. We were helping people heal from complex neurological cases, chronic pain, whiplash cases, and so many other conditions. After years of mentorship and obtaining our board certifications in Atlas Orthogonal, we decided it was time to share this treatment with other communities.

When we were looking at different major cities to open Anatomy Chiropractic, we were surprised to find that San Diego was the only major city in the west coast that did not have an upper cervical chiropractor specializing in Atlas Orthogonal! And how convenient that we both loved San Diego (I am a UCSD alumni and have always wanted to come back here)! So we set our sights out for a centralized location in the Hillcrest neighborhood, right off the 163 so we could be accessible from all parts of the city.

I am also growing my Youtube channel: Wake Up! with Dr. Loharun. My mission is to make health care cool by providing information about upper cervical chiropractic, its results, and other alternative health tips from a trusted source. I believe a large problem in healthcare is the lack of education patient’s receive on alternatives for their symptom management. By providing free educational content, my hope is to empower people with education so they feel confident in making informed decisions for their own health.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Learning how to be a business owner is a skill that I’m continually developing. It’s about learning to be nice yet firm and being even more organized about your time. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is, how to let go of expectations. These are expectations I set for myself and for others. When there are so many tasks to complete that are mostly out of our control, it’s easy to get disappointed if all the daily to-do’s aren’t checked off. But the tasks eventually get done, and the clinic looks even better than I could have ever imagined.

Anatomy Chiropractic is an upper cervical chiropractic office that uses devices to apply gentle and reproducible forces to move bones into proper alignment. All of this is done without cracking bones and twisting the patient’s spine. This is highly effective in treating headaches, migraines, dizziness, neck pain, and chronic pain symptoms. Our treatment methods are very objective: we take x-rays and measure each misalignment down to the millimeter, perform the correction, and then take post treatment x-rays to verify the correction. Our patient’s love this aspect because they are getting a no pain chiropractic experience, a unique treatment plan catered to their unique anatomy, and results that last.

There are a few things that set us apart from other offices. As I mentioned previously, we are the only San Diego chiropractic clinic that specializes in Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic. My partner and I are currently the only Board Certified Upper Cervical Chiropractors practicing Atlas Orthogonal in San Diego. We blend another low force chiropractic method into our treatment called Activator Chiropractic to treat the entire spine. We also use a low level laser therapy treatment that helps our patients heal faster and hold their adjustments better. Additionally, our clinic’s aesthetics are modern, minimalistic, and calming. Unlike a conventional doctor’s office! Our space gets filled with tons of natural light, perfect for our many happy clinic plants, and a sanctuary cultivated for healing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This city is amazing and I’m so glad to be able to finally call it home! It has something to do for everyone! But I would definitely start the day off with coffee from one of San Diego’s many third wave coffee shops like Hawthorn Coffee. We would go to Torrey Pines for a hike, La Jolla Cove for the seals, and Balboa Park on Sunday because of all the activities and people to meet there. We walk Mission Beach or Coronado because of all the space to lay out and relax. There would be an evening out in Little Italy for an authentic Italian meal at Ristorante Illando and drinks on a rooftop bar like Born and Raised. If they are up for a night out dancing, we would probably take them to Gaslamp and walk into whatever place looked fun! Another day could be spent shopping around a cute neighborhood like North Park and Hillcrest. I think one of the best parts of San Diego is downtown’s proximity to the airport! I love seeing people’s amazement when a plane comes in to land.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I could list here! First of all, I would not be here without the support of my parents, friends, and my partner. They were there for me when I needed someone to talk to, laugh with, or bounce ideas off with. My partner especially, always encouraged me to go for my wildest dreams and I can’t be more thankful for that push!

The person I truly want to give a shoutout to is my mentor in Washington, Dr. Saggau. I would not be the doctor I am today without her guidance and mentorship. She brought me into her successful and busy clinic without heeding to my lack of confidence as a new graduate. She opened my schedule completely after the onboarding process saying she trusted me to care for her patients. This gesture helped foster the confidence I needed as a new doctor. She added more patient volume as I got faster in my treatments. More patients gave me more responsibilities; both with management and with administrative work, on different types of cases. There were days where the patient volume and administrative work felt impossible but they were able to be completed. Despite our busy patient schedules, she was never far away if I needed to consult her expertise. She taught me to have grit and also when to let go because it will be there in the morning. I learned that I was capable of more than I ever thought I was. All these skills and lessons have been so invaluable to me as a new clinic owner myself.
