We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorothy Haines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dorothy, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Akeelah: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Akeelah and the Bee

Aibileen: You is kind. You is smart. You is important. The Help

These two quotes are always in my head when I feel very low with myself or life is overwhelming. These quotes constantly teach me to stay on track and that you are the only one who looks out for you. You are the one responsible for your own decisions. I think I said this in my previous article, people are always going to talk so you might as well give them something to talk about. I had to be reminded of that due to life events that have taken place in my life.

Now let’s break them down.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
We know there’s more to life than what we are living. We know that deep in our minds that we’re meant to enjoy while making the best of what we have while taking full accountability for everything that we’ve done. We are worth living.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
We know what we can do. We as people keep allowing those around us to affect our outcome within means. We’ve all had moments where someone that we know and trust had talked us out of something we knew that could’ve been the best decision of our lives. We have to live with that. We as a person have to take all accountability while knowing that we can overcome while conquering everything in our path.
And finally…
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
Who knows ourselves better than ourselves. No one else knows how talented or brilliant you are, that is your job to show them the type of talent you can contribute to the world. Your number one job in this world is to find something that you’re good at within reason (we want to stay legal) and make something of it. Profit from it, because who are we to tell you the reader that you can’t do something. Make nothing into something. You believe in yourself.

The Second Quote.

You is kind.

You know what type of person you are. If you don’t like who you are then change it. Remember this, change is as immediate as you want it to be. You control how fast you change as a person,

You is smart.
We all can’t be einsteins….or can we?? You know we all have the capability to learn as much as we want. How do you explain to everyone learning how to use our phones or laptops? Because we learned. You want to learn something new then do it. Do not let anyone discourage you from doing otherwise. You know how smart you are.

And Finally..
You is important.
THIS LAST PART RIGHT HERE!!!!

You are very important to everyone around you. I myself had to come to terms with this again. Life is overwhelming and it’s a part of growing up. The events that happen in your life will eventually blow over and people eventually forget. When that part happens, you’re the one who can make the story have a life again.

The point of it all…..

You’re worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do a lot of brand ambassador work. I love educating those on other brands. This gives me the opportunity to educate myself on other brands and know what other things are out there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Pho. I would take them to any Pho Ca Do. I would take them to crab hut or make a homemade seafood boil. It’s super-fast, easy, and cleans up is quick.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this to Majesty in Motion (David Stein) as well as Krystal Soto. They’ve both helped me in the long run esp. when helping me stand on all ten toes when it comes to those who are judging my character.
