We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ KZA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KZA, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance for me has become sporadic over time, tossing multiple things at once while making time for yourself, family, and etc. is a tough challenge and a learning experience that I am still continuing to work on. Balance for me doesn’t apply because to me, I think balance will make one stagnant. With all the curveballs being thrown at you, factors out of one’s control, and etc. It’s hard to say that there is a so-called “balance” when it comes to Work Life but its all part of the journey.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the IRL DJ scene, I would mainly try to stand out more among other DJ’s with tone play transitions and turntablism while rocking a crowd. In the digital scene, which is through twitch live streaming, I wanted to set myself apart with crazy visuals and also many references to video games, pop culture, mainstream media, and etc. with my overlays. I put overlays together myself, however did only some designs on my end with my background in multimedia. I’m still not where I want to be today, but it’s still a work in progress. Genuinely supporting people on twitch, building rapport, and establishing a friendship with them has been the #1 thing to help me get where I’m at today and also helped me learn along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Balboa Park and Seaport Village are great places to hang out, shoot photos, and also meet new people. In terms of food places, there are just so many to choose from, but an honorable mention to Menya Ultra for their Ramen all the way in Kearny Mesa. Convoy/Kearny Mesa has a lot of great food spots that are mostly Asian for anyone who likes Korean BBQ, Boba, Ramen, etc. Recently, my Uncle introduced me to “El Puerto” over in Spring Valley and their shrimp burrito is absolutely AMAZING. Definitely worth trying.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As of Fall 2020 to Spring 2021, all my efforts have been happening through twitch so I’d like to show my appreciation for twitch for being a great platform to help me build a community and get support from many people across the world. But First and foremost, I want to give a big shoutout NICOakaBLITZ, one of the most impactful people I met, I got a lot of love for him and it has been an honor to work with him and build a friendship with him and always look forward to future endeavors with him. Also, shoutout to GoodmorningGabe, Ladysetgo, DatGuyRy, and Meowington, for their support and guidance as a DJ. Lastly shoutout to my community on twitch and as a whole, my moderators, friends, subscribers, supporters, and etc. You know who you are, and I would not be the person I am today without any of you.
