We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance has changed over time for myself in many ways. Once I became a wife and mother, the need to delegate increased. I was planning, designed and coordinating most weddings. I began to allow assistant coordinators to close events and eventually lead the wedding days completely. Having a newborn changed many things for me. I could not run the weddings completely from start to finish with a newborn at home and the responsibilities that came with motherhood. I eventually decided to have the coordinators on our team run all weddings. I also separate my business phone from my personal phone and have cut off hours to work during wedding season. I love the balance. I love being 100% focused on my family when I am with them and 100% focused on wedding work when I am at the office. Self care is also deeply important to me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Your Side Planning is a boutique wedding planning firm. We only take on a select amount of weddings each year and give our complete attention to the ones we have committed to. I am most proud of our diverse team and backgroud. We have a multi-ethnic team and have experience in many types of events. It was not easy. I had to learn so much in the early stages of the business. The industry can be very catty at times and I had to learn how to separate myself from what did not serve me or the integrity of wedding planning. I have learned to always remain respectful and professional. I would want the world to know that our company cares for our clients as friends!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would be thrilled! I would take them on a walk along sunset cliffs then breakfast at a cool cafe in Ocean Beach. We would try out all sorts of food since San Diego has everything. I would show her Coronado, La Jolla, and the hidden gems throughout the county too. I love places like City Farmers and Bates Nut Farm so we would visit there for fun. The beaches in Coronado are my favorite so afternoon strolls along the beach or bay there would definitely be on the list.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When graduating with my Bachelors degree in Social Science, I decide to obtain my professional certification in meeting and event planning through SDSU. In that program, I learned many things that helped me along my path. I met lots of professionals and learned so much about business in general.
