Meet Derek White | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Derek, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from a relatively small town in the LA county, called Palmdale. How my background impacts me today, I would say that is mostly due to my mother and my father and my brother, all being entrepreneurs in their own way. It’s safe to say that I come from an entrepreneurial family, we’ve all had our ideas, and we’ve all sought to put our ideas action. But I come from a background of individuals were incredibly creative very self-sufficient and highly ambitious. And every time I look back on my family and my situation I always look back with the upmost pride. And coming from a family like this means that I have a certain standard that I also need to move up to, but the beauty of it all. Even if I hadn’t decided to be an entrepreneur myself, I would still have their support.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe at the end of the day “comparison“ is a double edge sword that needs to be used responsibly. Comparing yourself to others can either be the driving force of your motivation, and it can also be the very thing that disintegrates your resilience. Interact a great number of photographers, and I constantly compare my work to theirs, and it’s seeing how I can improve the quality of my own work seeing if I’m on a level that rivals those that I look up to. And when I look up and I realize that I’m not on the level of the people that I view as a self-discipline rival then that just encourages me to work harder and push harder to be better and improve myself. However, I have to make sure that I don’t become too obsessed. Otherwise, I can start to feel a sense of self to see and I can feel my resilience break and my determination failing and when I experience moments like those, that’s when I know that it’s time for me to take a break and unwind and clear my mind. Like LeBron James and Michael Jordan. LeBron James definitely compared himself to Michael Jordan in his career leading up to being one of the greatest NBA players of all time, and all along his path to becoming one of the greatest of all time rivaling, and maybe even beating Michael Jordan he had to take time to relax, recuperate and recover, So he can maintain his standing as a candidate to being The one who surpasses Michael Jordan.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Centennial park in Coronado is absolutely stunning. you get the city of downtown San Diego as a fantastic backdrop and more often than not the wind will hit just right so you can get that real nice classic windswept look with your models hair. The only downfall is the Model is going to have to look into the sun, and the sun can be pretty bright most days, so if you’re going for a Fashion shoot, and you have some sunglasses handy that would be absolutely perfect do you want and getting the natural lighting on point.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a shout out to a great number of people. firstly, I’ll shout out to my family my parents and my brother for putting me into an environment focused on being self disciplined, creative, integral, and resilient. Olivia‘s are incredibly important aspects of being an entrepreneur and being a creative person in general. More recent times I believe that a lot of my shout outs should go to the models and the people that I’ve worked with that have helped me in my past and on my road in photography. Friends like Mitzy Jimenez, Katie, dodge, Korinne Portley, Kimmarie Aballona, and Brandy Vasquez have you knew of the day I say that these people were Korinne supporting me with my photography and my coming up as a creative Entrepreneur.
